Should WDW Keep Tomorrowland?

I'm sorry if someone already posted this.. But I have an idea.. Re-theme the entire land to "Discoveryland" form Disneyland Paris. Discoveryland was themed in such a unique way that it does not go out of date because it isn't technically themed to the future, it is themed to the ideas of famed European thinkers and explorers. (Maybe theme it to just: "Famed Thinkers and Explorers.") This way, the actual theme does not go out of date simply because the word "Tomorrow" is in it, much like how "Frontier," "Adventure," "Liberty," and "Fantasy" don't make the themes of other lands go out of date. "Discovery" is simply focusing on things that have been or will be discovered.

Introducing new attractions and attractions that can still exist..

Space Mountain: Mission 2
Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin
"Improved replica of Horizons"
Discoveryland Transit Authority People Mover
Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor Comedy Club (Since the land is now themed to "Discovery," this would make sense here)

This would also give Disney the opportunity to replace Stitch's Great Escape. My personal opinion would be to replace it with a new version of The Time Keeper... Put the Time Keeper/9 Eyes animatronic in the middle of the rooms, and then put the circle vision 360* screens on the walls. The room would pretty much easily fit a brand new concept of this idea. Put a brand new pre-show video on the TVs in the first pre-show room. Create a great new pre-show using the "cadet" animatronic as a new Time Keeper animatronic explaining what you are about to do! Then go into the theatre. It could work!

I agree that the theme does seem redundant in all three areas. I'm more of a fan of keeping tomorrowland in MK and changing some of the rides. I would personally replace Future World in Epcot, make it more countries to explore. Not sure how any of this would work though....Great post topic!

I would REALLY love to see an update that brings back soaring spires and clean white lines to Tomorrowland. I think Disney could take inspiration in that regard from their very own Tomorrowland movie!
Less reliance on animated movie tie-ins would open up a plethora of ideas to make new attractions, big and small, to a New Tomorrowland. After all, it already has (and should keep) Space Mountain, so it doesn't need more E-tickets per se.

This may seem too retro to some people, but I'd love to see Stitch replaced with an updated Mission to Mars. There is a lot of attention being paid to Matt Damon's new "The Martian" movie coming out, not to mention last year's "Interstellar." So there is definitely still interest in the idea of space travel, and new technology could make the simple idea of the old MtM and make it much more visually interesting.

The pitchforks will come out if you try to axe the Peoplemover. I'm not a fan of CoP, but it's kind of a historic landmark. In other words, the only attractions that are fair game for replacement are just the spots that have continually been updated over the years: Stitch, Laugh Floor, and Buzz.

I'm all for replacing those with new attractions, but I think the general idea of a futuristic land should remain. It could be real futurism, sci-fi, or retrofuturistic, even Victorian-style like Paris' Discoveryland or Tokyo DisneySea's Port Discovery and Mysterious Island.

Otherwise, what's next? Close down Fantasyland because Anna and Elsa are in World Showcase?

I'm liking this idea the most. I'd prefer Discoverland remain a French exclusive (as much as I enjoyed it), but using the same rough idea to have a Floridian style Mysterious Island - with an open layout, lots of water, coral reefs, swaying palms and steampunk.

Except mainstream America, and popular culture at large, has remained stubbornly resistant to steampunk. It's the milieu of "nerds" and remain so until there's a fundamental shift in culture.

tommorowland should really go steampunk/space race dump all the cheezy decor get darker earth like tones (rust ect)

Yeah, they tried this in Anaheim for the Tomorrowland '98 redo and it was a complete failure. Within a few years they slowly began transforming it back to white with with blue and silver trim and now the land looks better. Not perfect, but better. After the New Tomorrowland opened 1998 the whole thing looked terrible, dirty even, as evidenced by this sad picture of Space Mountain.:cry:

And two different Disney theme park lands already use that aesthetic, with no negative impact to queue lengths. If people want to go on the rides, they will do so regardless of the source material. There's hardly a demand in current popular culture for Buck Rogers or World's Fair attractions either...or westerns...or early 1900s Americana...and yet people don't skip those lands when visiting MK.

Besides, "giving what the masses want" is what got us Stitch in the first place. The public doesn't know what it wants until you show it to them.

Because it was done on the cheap, hence why it was so easy to go back to the old look. All they did was slap on a new coat of paint, while inserting clones of existing attractions like Innoventions and Honey, I Shrunk the Audience. Rocket Rods had half the budget that was originally intended for it. The submarines were simply closed, the monorails stayed the same and they didn't (and still haven't) taken down all the old Star Jets infrastructure.

First of all, tomorrow land needs to go back to its original look, since it is in the magic kingdom I think it would be better to keep some of the good old retro stuff showing how people viewed the future in yesteryear. It is a turn of the century park, I think the current somewhat retro theming for tomorrow land with allot more TLC is the way to go. It's nice to look back on the future.

You can't just reskin it you need to rebuild it. Darker earth tone don't mean "rust brown everything lol"

Tomorrowland could use a fresh update. While Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin is cool, I always thought this ride should've been moved next to Toy Story's Midway Mania (Disney Hollywood Studios). Maybe when DHS gets Toy Story Land, Disney will consider this as the theme would just make sense. Now, let's just say Buzz gets relocated to DHS (hypothetical). What do you suppose Disney would put in its place? Seems like the space theme has already been played out with Space Mountain, but maybe they could put something in there that's not movie character related? I'm just thinking that quite a few things that are in Tomorrowland could've been relocated into DHS or even Epcot and do something different with Innovations? Tomorrowland is losing its edge.
