Should I make room requests?

So here's my dilemma...We have two standard rooms reserved at POP for 11 days with a request that they are adjoining. I was considering requesting a specific building/floor (I've read 4th floor in the 50's building facing the lake is the best standard area), however having adjoining rooms is more important to us than the location. I'm worried that putting in room requests may decrease the chances that we get our adjoining rooms. Anyone have this problem before or have an opinion? :shrug:

You can put your requests in order of importance. In your case they would honor getting you adjoining rooms before your location.

From what we have heard (and experienced) you can fax your request directly to the resort about 5 days out from your trip and very politely make your request. They do not generally assign the rooms until about that time. Keep in mind that it will depend on what is available. Good Luck!

That used to be true but not now. They pretty much ignore faxes now, especially with computer assigned rooms. The best way is to phone and have the requests noted on your reservation.

Yep call them and have them put the request in the computer for you. It's been hit or miss with me in the past.

On our trip this past May, when I did the on line check in, I requested a ground level floor since that was most important to us. The day we checked in, I asked the CM if there was a room available in either building 6 or 10. The CM was glad to grant our requests as she put us in building 6 ground floor. The visit before that we had asked for a room in the 50's section which was not granted. I think Disney will try to meet any requests made to the best of their ability based on availability.

I have always gotten adjoining rooms. However, you cannot be choosey with your requests. If adjoining rooms is the most important, then that may be all you can get.

I recommend not doing online check-in. This way you can work with a CM on some of the requests to see what they can accommodate.

If adjoining rooms are that important, I wouldn't put any other requests in.
Or at least I wouldn't get too specific about them.

I often put in a single request. Like (high floor level).
But I kind of enjoy the "the luck of the draw" when it comes to rooms.
So I never make more than one request.
It's always worked well.

We have always called down to the resort directly 10 days out. We have an autistic child, so Disney has always been accomodating with our requests. We always ask for connecting rooms and have always gotten them, but you may have to request a certain building when you actually check in

FYI - if you call 10 days out or 90 days out you still talk to a call center. Calls made "direct to the resort" go to a call center 99% of the time; it's only after they try and handle the call and it's something they cannot handle will they even attempt to find someone at the resort to help you; i.e. lost luggage where you may need to talk to the Bell Services manager at a resort.

I'm not advising this, but just wanted to throw my experience out there....

2008 - Pop Century - Request: King Bed, Upper Floor, As far away from pool as possible - What we got: double beds, first floor, facing the pool.

2010 - Yacht Club (honeymoon) - Request: King Bed - What we got: queen beds but were upgraded to club level :sohappy:

2011 - Animal Kingdom Lodge - No Requests, we figured they'd never been granted before so why bother - What we got: King Bed and upgraded to savanna view. Perfect!

After that experience, we've decided to go with the flow and take what we are given. I think your best bet is to talk to the CM at the front desk.

One thing you do need to do when you call reservations is to make sure you are specific in what you ask as far as adjoing. Disney considers adjoing to be near the other room and that could mean across the hall or 2 doors down. If you want them to connect with a door that opens between the two please be sure to ask for connecting rooms.

I agree with Joe. Calling the resort is going to put you with guest services at the hotel and not with an actual front desk person.

Don't ask for a specific room, building, or floor. Let them know what you are trying to accomplish instead. If you want a high floor, say that. If you want away from the pool, say that.

For example, I will be down next weekend and will be in SSR. My reservation has a request for a room "as close as possible to a pool with a bar" That way they know they can ignore view, floor etc. and just concentrate on the objective. And if they can't get me into the Springs or Grandstand section then they can try Congress Park, but on the side near the Grandstand.

If I just said Springs or Grandstand, they would have no idea WHY I wanted to be there.

In March of this year we requested adjoining rooms in Pop's 70s building. We got just that. No harm in asking.

We've had requests not be honored in the past upon initial check-in but when we inquired, our room was changed to something more in line with our desires. All depends on availability of course.

This is the best advice possible about room requests. You might know why you want room 4845 but the CM assigning your room does not have a clue. When they know the method to your madness it is much easier for them to accommodate you. It is also important that you put your requests in order of importance if you have more than one.
