Make the reservations, the days of walking up to a restaurant and getting a table are over; there are times when CS places have a 30-45 minute wait

It depends on when and what you want. We were just there from May 11th to 19th. Wait times at CS places were minimal to nonexistent. TS was no problem for what we wanted. Chefs de France for lunch (restaurant was almost empty), Artist Point for dinner, Tokyo Dining for lunch, California Grill for dinner, Cape May Cafe for character breakfast - all booked the morning of or night before. No problem for five (sometimes two people). At Studios one day every place was available for walk-up. Again, it depends on when you go and where you want to eat, I suppose, but the days of spontaneity at WDW aren't completely dead. Anytime we've walked up we've rarely been turned away.

we tried to eat at scifi in august, no luck. 2 hour wait. best bet is to make ressies, then as your trip gets closer, you can try to move them around. if nothing is available then, at least you took the effort now, so you still have ressies!

Ill be honest planning meals adds to the fun, saves on dissapointment and attendance is not compulsory.

Do you cancel if not planning to show? I've read numbers as high as 50 per cent for people who makes ressies then don't show. I like the credit card idea, or extra room charge for guests staying at a Disney resort, for people who make ressies and don't show. I know they do it for the California Grill.

Heading for the great escape.
I think there was only the once we have changed our plans and no showed. However given the thunderstoms I dont think Disney would have been too bothered.
