Should Haunted Mansion update effects?

Just wondering what you guys would think if Disney decided to close the Haunted Mansion for anywhere from a week to a month to update the special effects in the mansion, keeping the ride and story the same, just giving it a new edge? Or should they just leave it the way it is with the "classic" effects?

I would love to see updated effects, a new sound system with redigitalized music...and it's no secret that I would love to see the Phantom Manor Theme appear...if not for the whole ride, maybe just for the ballroom scene, where I feel it would fit in extremely well...

I agree totally, the ride would really shine with a new digital sound system and new computerized ghosts effects could only make this classic ride better!

The HM could use some new special effects . Maybe a new script in some places. Half the ride seems to be falling apart.. ( It may just be the theming.) But besides those couple things . The ride is great. But yes I do agree that HM could use some minor rehab.

I have really enjoyed it just the way it is the last 30 or so times I have ridden it. I wouldn't mind them updating the sound system, but please don't change to much of the rides theme. It's the nostalgia that keeps me returning!!:)

I know the "world" outside Disney World is an ever changing place, but when I am able to visit Disney, it is like returning home with all the comforts and familiarity you feel when you visit your childhood home.

Maybe I am just too sentimental!:)

I'd say it could use a few updates here and there, but definately not a complete overhaul. Maybe just an extensive re-hab. It really could use a new sound system.

Hmmmmmmmmmm. This is a tough one. i think that Hm is probably one of those rides you just can't touch. Any change might hurt it, even more up to date effects. Sharpening up the sound could be a good idea. Actually many of the effect sin the mansion have been updated since opening. One of them being madame Leota. Her head has always sat in side of the crystal ball, but the projection used to come from the front, whereas it now comes form inside the head. Some of the effects they use now are form as far back as the 50's and 60's. Effects such as "pepper's ghost" which is used in the grand ballroom to make all of the ghosts transparent while disappearing and reappearing. I won't tell how it works in this post because some people don't want to know. If you do want to know you can go to www.doombuggies.com. This site tells everything you'd want to know about the HM and how every single effect works.

It would be nice to see it updated after 30 years of operation. But the one from DL had to wait almost 50 just for a new Paint Job so I don't think that the WDW mansion will be changing anytime soon.

I have to agree that the sound system could use some help, but the rest of the effects are just fine with me! Leave those super digital effects for stuff like Star Tours...something modern....I love my Mansion just as it is....they already ruined pirates.....

There's only one way the ride would get these improvements. That would be if the immensely-popular Haunted Mansion Holiday were to come to disney world. I certainly wouldn't mind having that for a few months if it meant a new sound system and other changes. Keep in mind that some of the effects on the ride don't even work (and haven't for quite some time). For instance, when the Ghost Host says "hot and cold running chills", there is a fan that's supposed to blow hot then cold air on you. It, obviously, does not work, and I think it would be the subtle type of change that would be quite kewl.

I like it the way it is. It's a classic and nobody assures me that with the new effects it will be better, so why take the risk when something is already great ? People really don't care about the FX in this attraction, they just enjoy the pleasure of being scared. I think it would be cool if Cast Members start spreading more rumours about HM stories and how this house is supposed to be hunter, and so on.
About the audio, yes, maybe it need some new tech. though the actual equipments wasn't installed so long ago, but with today's inventions they could improve maybe with some type of Dolby or THX sound which really scares the h3ll out of people like in new horror movies which are based in scaring people with just the sound.:brick:

With all this talk of new effects, I had forgotten that when I was there on Friday, I saw what I thought was a new Tombstone. We didnt have to wait in line long, so I missed the effects! But according to Doombuggies, the new stone, which is Little Leotas, has an effect to where her face protrudes just a bit, and her eyes open, look both ways, and close again. It is a very subtle effect, but soooo cool! It was supposed to talk, but with budget cuts, it dosent. The inscription reads....
Dear sweet Leota
Beloved by all
In regions beyond now
But having a ball
I think this is the kind of effect that is a welcome ADDITION to the attraction...not changing something that existed and was changed for the new....it does fit right in.....

Technology has come a long way since HM was introduced. I think some updating would benefit the ride but I would hate to see them alter the feel too much. The ride is a classic and a great attraction. I would hate to see it ruined by a slick update.

One day I'll have a window on Main Street

:p :hammer: The new Leota tombstone is great! Its these little details that they add that makes Disney great. She sometimes pops out a little and looks both ways, or just blinks, or winks. Its really good. The only major change in my opinion is the spider area, what a waste of valuable space! Something really cool could be done there. Something having to do with the Gracey legend maybe?

I don't know what all of you are talking about the ride being scarier and new effects would make it scary. This ride is not suppose to be a tower of terror or some Halloween Haunted Slaughterhouse type thing. Listen to the music, not very scary eh? But with that said, I believe this ride shouldn't be scary but should be a good place to remind us of what scary used to be before teleision turned it into a gore-fest. With that said, any sound change would be welcome as long as no one touches the theme song and perhaps some ADDED FX but nothing major.

I think the could touch up the ride a little. The theme right now is awesome. The one thing they could change however is probobly the stretching room. I don't mean change the story for it. I just thing the way the room stretches could be cleaned up. its dead obvious to me how the do it becuase the pictures stick out and the part of the wall the connected to does also so you can see how the actual wall doesn't move but the pictures do.

I'd totally go for it - especially if they used some of the effects like in Phantom Manor. I'm not sure which voice I would want though, Vincent Price would be great - but I dunno.

Other than Minor Tweaks...

...I'd say leave the Mansion alone. The tableu (Sp???) of sorts which is created by the various characters and stories is wonderful. It gives the Mansion a more mysterious tone, and I think one central plotline would lessen the overall ride experience.
As for effects, I'd also say leave them, most of them are still very effective except for one. The floating objects in the seance room need some work. You can see the string holding them up quite obviously and in the dark too. Maybe the lighting in the scene needs to be adjusted, I dunno. As for Vincent Price, yes he was awesome, but NO ONE will EVER come close to the sensationally spooky Paul Frees, the man and this ride are one. He litterally had me shaking as a child, I was that scared. Other than that, the sound system could stand to see some refurb, thats it.
