PotC in O-town is the worst on the planet, but its fine. However, Disney's flagship resort and highly attended DL clone deserves more rides that are quintessentially Disney. In a psychological sense I know where the OP is coming from. Thus, I propose this. 1) Build Western River Expedition in Frontierland. Make it really nice. Ten minutes or so. 2) Build a Mystic Manor clone in Adventureland. MK now has more PotC, HM type experiences and you've given the park with that big ole iconic castle a bit more substance.

After visiting nearly all the resorts around the world, I can safely conclude that Orlando has the worst version of Pirates of the Caribbean by miles. Do you think it would be a worthy investment for Disney to close the ride for a few years and entirely scrap and rebuild it? Regardless of whether it's replaced with a version similar to California's or Shanghai's? I know it's not a likely scenario but I personally think Disney should do it.
I think they should port a bigger version of the one in Disney Shanghai

Count me as another person who’s been on every version of PotC in the world, and considers WDW’s the weakest by miles. It’s one of the biggest letdowns and missed opportunities in The Magic Kingdom, considering that it’s arguably the top attraction at Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris.

Speaking of which, I think Paris’s version improves upon DL’s version... and I didn’t think that was possible until I went on it for myself!

Unfortunately, there’s no financial incentive for Disney to make any major changes to WDW’s PotC. So, it’s unlikely to be fixed anytime in the foreseeable future - although of course I’d love to be proven wrong.

The Paris version is phenomenal. It has a fantastic exterior, a restaurant connected, a queue line as good or better than Orlando’s, and a ride experience better than probably any other version. If any version of the ride were to replace the garbage cliff notes version in the MK, I’d pray it was Paris. I’d rather see them use the Shanghai boat ride concept for an Indiana Jones ride in Hollywood Studios.

Remove all movie references please. Jack Sparrow is a Lame Duck, especially now that Johnny Depp was fired from the franchise.
I hope to see him removed too. I wonder if like a weed he will spring up down the road on an attraction.

I absolutely LOVE the DLP version. I was just in awe riding it. Here is my take- if you have never ridden a PotC ride and WDW is your first, it's pretty awesome. Until I started going to DLR I thought it was one of the best attractions. Then I saw what was available in the world (in terms of PotC)...

Even though it's one of my favorites, there's a few changes that, if Disney made them, would make the ride satisfying enough for me:

  • Remove the references to the movies. It makes the ride feel dated, especially now that the series is pretty much dead. They can keep Jack in the treasure room as a nice little cameo to top off the experience, but with how he's been distanced from the franchise I doubt Disney would spare him. I feel like within the parks Disney actually commercialises the classic attraction a lot more in recent merch or references.
  • I understand that times change and the original scenes like the Auction can be seen as insensitive nowadays, but the new scene could use a tad more humor. If I were to change it, I'd have the Auctioneer and Redd trying to sell goods like rum and the tied-up aristocrat slaves to the other pirates, but they chant the classic line "we wants the redhead!", causing Redd to shoot at them. It could actually be a lot more empowering than the current scene, where she just gives in to the men's demands for rum. This time, she doesn't take crap from them.
Touch up some of the animatronics and technology and you have yourself a modernised take on the classic attraction.

I doubt at this stage of the world Disney will be replacing or adding anything. Lets face it - they are losing a fortune every day. Its going to take a long time for them to bounce back. I think they are going to lose a lot of their crowds even when they reopen. People will be fearful of germs and crowds for a long time. Pirates in California is a much better ride than Orlando. But, its still a fun ride and would hate to see it end. Refurbish would be nice - but that goes for most of the rides except the brand new ones.

It'd never happen realistically, but I certainly would never against genuine improvement of an attraction. The ending is far too abrupt and could use fleshing out, and while there are some scenes that would be fine if they utilized today's technology (the ship and fort scene or the burning village comes to mind here) there are others that need to just be re-imagined entirely.

PotC is my #2 and I would be totally ecstatic if there were some major improvements or even a total redo to give it the length it deserves (completely unrealistic), but I would also be just as pleased if the ride got proper maintenance with all of the effects in working order/not disabled (also sadly unrealistic).
