Short Poll AK or Poly?

I have the funds and the friend so i'm going to book a resort during the dining plan offer in the fall.

So, AK Savannah View or Poly Garden View?

Pro's...

AK:
Animals
Nice theme I rather enjoy
Peaceful and great service from other trips
Boma
Pretty lobby

Poly:
Location - MK resort monorail, TTC to Epcot
Possible renovated room
Tiki theme is "ok" in my book, but my friend seems pretty fond of it

Cons!

AK:
Bus transport only, but will have our own car
Heat - august is still summer and thus the transport will be worse to do and wait for

Poly:
Garden View is really a view of nothing - but that doesn't much bother me
Crowds - it's the more popular resort
Ohana loud loud loud

The other consideration is Boardwalk Inn, but walking in the heat to Epcot or MGM doesn't seem like fun at all.

So, where should i stay? I'll leave an "other" option in the poll so you can post any cases for resorts I might be overlooking. We did consider WL, but we went there last time and want to try something new. Only resorts I've never been to are Yacht/Beach/Boardwalk and FQ. Friend has only been to WL Concierge, and then an All Star.

This poll will close in like 24 hours, as i actually hope to make the ressie with deposit by the end of the day.

I've stayed in both resorts (with both views) and I find that you get much more for your dollar by waking up to see a giraffe outside your window! Granted, every time I've stayed at the Poly, a family of ducks took up residence outside our window (I've always been on the ground floor), but that's hardly the same kind of wildlife...

IMHO, while the Poly is beautiful and remains one of my favourite resorts, its prices are starting to be waaaaaay out of line. Yes, the monorail/boat service to the MK is nice, but I've had to wait just as long for a bus to the AKL and POR.

Plus, seeing as you'll have your own car, it will be relatively easy to get to/from the parks... Although, for the record, I have had way more transportation nightmares at the Poly than at ANY other resort!!

I'm staying at BWI this July, so I can't really comment on it as a viable "other" option, but, based on what I'm hearing, I may have a new favourite resort upon my return!!

The fun stuff to do at Boardwalk I've done just by visitting though - like riding the Surrey bikes, wandering about, eating pizza, having an ice cream. I really think for BWI i'm going to hold off until i'm rich and then do the Steeple Chase Suite *droolz* or one of the suites that has it's own garden out front.

No need to be rich for those, Merf - just foolish!!

I'm engaging in the foolishness of a Garden Suite this July!!!

I'm gonna say AKL if you get the savanna view. If you got a parking lot view I would go with Poly. Both as you already know are fantastic resorts, AKL just gets the edge in my book.

Personally I stay someplace cheaper for a lot longer. But given the choice between AKL or Poly, I'd pick ALK.

I'd consider that, but i'm a local, so I visit once every month or so for atleast a half day. In fact, if I get my school work done, we're gonna try to go Friday. After 4-days in the parks i'm kinda like "Meh.. time to go home.."

If you are going to go mainly for the hotel, then Animal Kingdom very much gets my vote. :)

AKL grabbed my vote as well. It may be a little far out for transportation, but sometimes the quiet of the resort and the amazing views is better than the convienence of the monorail. At least in my opinion.

I've stayed at both but nothing beats The Poly!! Especially now that it has been through a refub with new format in the Great Ceremonial House and new rooms with flat screen tvs and brand new furnishings.
There is nothing like seeing all those palm trees outside your room when you open the curtains in the morning. And seeing Wishes and the Electrical Water Pageant (with the sounds of the luau in the background) while your swimming at night in the pool. Ahhh!
I found the lobby to be nice at the AKL, but that's about it. We had a Savannah View and didn't see all that many animals (except for giraffes), so I was pretty dissapointed. I also thought the rooms were pretty cramped and dark for my taste. The bathroom especially felt like a closet. Plus, I just hated being so far away from everything. My favorite park is Magic Kingdom and I just love being able to jump on the resort monorail and get there in no time. On our first trip as adults to Disney, we had planned to stay at AKL for a week but after 2 days we decided to change resorts and stay at The Poly.
One big plus about the AKL though besides the beautiful grounds, is they have the best restaurants in my opinion in all of the resorts! Having Jiko's and Boma's both withing walking distance is definitely a plus.
:)
