Shoes?

Hi everyone!

I am new to the boards but very not new to Disney World. Over the 18+ times I have been, I still have not been able to pin down an actual COMFORTABLE shoe that is remotely attractive other than a spiffy pair of Nikes (and for us ladies we all know sneakers don't always go too well with our Disney park hopping attire). I know this is random and I am new so I am not sure if this is the right section to post under, but any and all advice is welcome! I've got my next trip in less than a month and I need to get serious!

Well if you are stepping in a ankle deep puddle, then I guess it does not matter what you do to your shoes. LOL Plus if it rains, your socks get wet anyway. I just found that the scotch guard helps slow down the process of wet shoes quit a bit.
Yeah, that's the thing. I can't stand wet socks, they destroy my feet after a few hours, and during those downpours puddles add up quite quickly. So now if they do get too wet, I'll switch to flip flops. Or, I'll put flip flops on when it starts to rain and then after everything is mostly dried up, I'll put my shoes back on (this is the best option, imo).

I wish that I could wear flip flops. I have the same issue as someone else who posted, my feet move around too much and rub so that is worse then sneakers for me. But I have weird feet.

"Sanuk"s are really nice, idk if you've tried those. But they're soft padding and more durable than the cheaper ones. My friend was wearing cheap ones you'd find in a Walmart bin in February and had blisters by early morning.

I cant wear the slip ones. I need ones that attach themselves to my feet and fit snug. Its a pain, my feet get really sweaty and then the sliding begins. I envy those who can pretty much wear any shoe. I also have issues where the tip bone in my big toe is pointing up, so shoes that are too hard I can't wear either. I need soft top. Like I said, serious foot issues. LOL

You might really like the Vionics then, honestly. My feet slide around in regular flip flops too, but the bed of my Vionics are a different kind of plastic. Even wet they seem to stay put. They also make several styles with straps to keep them in place, and they even have a yoga sling sandal style they recently came out with.

I find normal converse comfortable enough to wear for a full park day, and they go with pretty much anything. Only time I have been caught out is when I decided to wear some 'style over substance' sandals one day and was almost crying in pain after the first couple of hours (to my horror I had to buy some crocs in-park and throw my new sandals in the bin)

It's Disney, why do you have to have "attractive" shoes? To get an answer to this question, walk 10 miles on hard pavement in different types of shoes. Determine which felt best and do not cause issues. Some people can do this in flip flops, others in crocs, and others in running/walking shoes. This question always reminds me of the Modern Family episode where she is wearing 5" spiked heels and finally puts on Mickey slippers.

My wife and I don't worry about cute, it's all about comfort. Not really concerned if some stranger is looking at my shoes or how they will look in a picture later...but I'm old(er), so my perspective on appearances my be very different from yours :D

You can actually go to a running shoe store and have them evaluate your gait. It's typically free and they'll be able to tell you what shoes are best for your feet/walking gait. They can tell what you need by a variety of telltale signs they look for when they watch you walk. I highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for shoes to properly support their own particular feet.

Absolutely necessary if you planning on running. Not just to check for pronation, but size in general - width and length.

Stuff an extra pair of socks in your backpack.

Sketchers Go Walk 3 - they aren't the most fashionable shoe, but they come in some pretty exciting colors - and they have great arch support and a super cushy yoga mat insole.
I'm on board the Sketchers Go Walk Go Run train. Bought the running shoes for work did not break them in and had no trouble with them. It is like having to pillows strapped to my feet, very comfortable. I have wide flat feet and these have been the most comfortable shoes I have owned. I bought a pair of the casual GoWalk 4 for Disney they felt the same so I'll see how those wear. Also bought a pair of Nike running shoe for those days of not avoiding bad weather. Should be easy to dry.

It's a good idea to have two pairs of shoes, and not just in case one gets wet from the rain. Switching your shoes daily helps with the prevention of blisters. I always bring two pairs of running shoes for the race weekends....a pair that's good for shorter distances and a pair that's best for 13.1 miles. :)
