Shipping stuff home

I did a search and after about the 100 post I gave up. Sorry.

I know you can ship your merchandise as you buy it, but we probably will have those little purchase that are not made from places that will ship. Since we are flying we are limited on luggage space. Does any of the hotels have a shipping service? We would like to box up what we cannot get in the luggage and ship it but not leave the resort.

I believe you can do this at the front desk of your resort. There is, obviously, the cost of shipping, but I think they can do it.

My suggestion: Ship things back when you purchase them; it's a lot easier to do it at the store than at the resort. We tend to do most of our shopping in one trip (it takes us one or two just to figure out everything we want! ) so we ship the big stuff back when we buy it, usually at DTD.

Or you can underpack so there is room for the extras.

Some people put an empty soft duffel bag in their luggage. Make sure that this won't put you over your carry-on limit of 1 bag + 1 personal item.

Others put the smaller suitcase inside the bigger one.

It really is easier just to take a bigger suitcase than you need. If you have to sit on it to close it at home, there is NO room for anything else.

You might just want to go to Downtown Disney and shop at the World of Disney or Mousegear in Epcot and have them ship your purchase home. I am planning on buying some ornaments and having them shipped home. If I break them on my way home then it would be my lose. If they break in shipping they will be insured.

Don't forget the weight limit too. My biggest suitcase has gone over the weight limit. I have to carefully pack it with lightweight items - no jeans. The many stuffed toys we have bought go nicely in that suitcase bulky and lightweight.

We shipped quite a few things home in September. It was so nice to not have to worry about any breakable in your luggage. Shipping was very inexpensive and they well shipped everything.

We shipped items immediately after purchase as well as the day we were leaving the hotel.. I strongly suggest doing this for any breakable items you have purchased.

I usually ship home a box everytime I go to WDW.... I get a box from the front desk (I'm usually at the Deluxe hotels...) and they will give you that and packing tape.

On my way to check out, they drop the box off for me and ship it. The UPS or Fed Ex guy always knows when I've been on vacation!!!

This year I have to figure out how to get my gingerbread house home!!! I'm thinking of either finding a UPS store nearby or carrying it on... but the rest that doesn't fit is getting shipped!!!

My recommendation is to ship it home as you purchase the items. If you purchase items and want to ship them out of state, you do ot pay tax on the items you purchased. If you end up spending over $200 or whatever the cut off is, it's actually cheaper for you to ship items home then to take them with you. (a little trick I learned while working in merchandise at WDW) Often, when people purchase Christmas gifts , they end up with like $300 in merchandise and shipping for over $100 is about $15.95. If you can calculate the 6.5% or 7% tax will be more than $16.00, shipping your purchase home is a great option. Note, I do not believe they will ship perishable items.

Last year on my honeymoon, my wife and I decided that we were going to be smart and pack a dufflebag in our suitcase so that we could bring stuff back.

Unfortunately, we bought so much that we bough another bad at World of Disney.

On our last say, we realized that we still did not have enough room. So, we had to ship stuff from the front desk at the Polynesian. They were so nice...I think you have to have the receipts to prove that you bought the stuff, but they never checked.

They even provided the box and tape for us. I don't think that is always the case, but they were so nice, it worked out awesome.

You can take anything you like to the Conference Center Shipping Desk on the first floor of the Contemporary.

They ship stuff in and out all day for the companies having meetings there, so they have all the boxes and supplies you will need!

I've done it many times with great success!

Any of the hotels can ship either UPS, or FedEx. We just returned from our honeymoon and while there we received several gifts from different resturants(Champagne flutes from Cinderella's Royal Table and other breakable things) and we didn't want to chance them getting broken in our luggage. It cost us about $10 to ship it UPS and it arrived 2 days after we got home. It is definately worth it, and if you need shipping supplies, the gift shops in the resort can supply you with the boxes, bubble wrap, tissue paper and anything else you might need.

In AKL we take all our stuff to the store, Zawadi (sp).
They check your reciepts and then pack them up and ship it home. The good thing about doing it this way, instead of going to the front desk, is that if anything is broken during shipment you can just call disney up and they will send a replacement to you.

Yep. That is what I did on my CP shopping spree (different store, but same thing). It works great, and the shipping is pretty reasonable for the protection.

I know you can ship things home when you purchase them and that is the option for when we do our big trip. But we have two little ones that want stuffed animals, the light up twirling things, this and that. They won't let me ship them at the time we buy them and some of the stuff comes off of carts that cannot be shipped at that time. We are planning on packing a light suitcase with the diapers for our youngest. This way we use them and it frees up the bag, but in case we go overboard (which is every trip :)) then I wanted to be prepared on what we have to do to get it home. We are still trying to figure out how to get a gingerbread house home. The show we watched last night says they don't ship home well and need to be carried home. Flying is not the easist way to get it there, so we might have to brave shipping.

Delta - The baggage weight is 50 lbs. Then there is a charge of $25 up to 100 lbs I think. I got caught on that the last trip at 68 lbs. They gave me such dirty looks when I said fine, charge me. They acted like they wanted me to empty 18 lbs of stuff and leave it on the floor....no way. Besides the luggage alone weighed 35 lbs. We bought it for my husband's international travels. This time we bought cheap light weight ones that probably only get 1-2 uses out of them after the gorilla's are done.

Also, if anyone did not know. If you ship your items at point of purchase, they don't charge you sales tax, which usually pays for the shipping. I learned that really well the last trip.

Wow! I never knew that shipping stuff home was so easy and inexpensive! When I think of all those HEAVY bags I've carried... Well, I'm heading to WDW in 3 days (hooray!) and I'm staying for a week (hooray!) so I'm definitely going to give this a try!:sohappy:
