I just want to give props to Walt Disney World. I purshased a lot of things on my last trip and had them shipped to my home address. It was such a wonderful surprise for all my packages to arrive today. Plus, you do not get charged taxes which is a bigger plus. And the AP discount at World of DISNEY is even better.

who did you contact to have your things shipped, the front desk?
And was the cost of shipping worth it?

Well all of my purchases were shipped from the stores themselves. I had packages sent from Japan in WS and World of Disney. They do not charge sales tax and your packages are weighed and charged. Considering the luggage fees on airlines - it is well worth it!!! Plus, I like the peace of mind knowing that my bags will be no heavier than what they was when I left and that days after my vacation, my packages will arrive safely at my house.

Absolutely! May I also suggest getting the Tables in Wonderland card. You will get a 20% discount at certain location throughout WDW. Your AP will also get you a discount at locations throughout the world as well!!!

You may also send all your purchases from guest services at your resort. We kind of purchased a lot of stuff in Dec so I went to guest services and they gave me the box and a form. I filled the box and took it back down to guest services, all 33 pounds of it :D, and they finished taping the box and it was sent via UPS for me. I was even able to use my personal UPS shipper number. I sent it NDA as it was sooo close to Christmas and ground shipping would not have arrived in time. Guest services was an absolute gem about it.

I believe that shipping costs when sent directly from the stores is based on the total purchase price, not weight. (So sometimes you're paying a lot to ship something small &/or light).

The best part of shipping from a store is that if something breaks Disney replaces it. (plus they don't charge you sales tax if you're shipping out of state)

If you pack your own box, you've already paid sales tax and I doubt Disney will replace your broken items, but you may save $$ on your shipping charges. It really depends on what you want to send back home.

Anything breakable is worth spending the extra money on. We always ship back our Christmas ornaments and we've had several break over the years. Disney's been great about replacing them.

Unless it has changed in the last 6 months or so, you are correct.

Not a bad deal if you are buying lower priced stuff. But it really stinks when you like to shop in the Art of Disney. - Big Figs dont ship cheap.

This is exactly what we did on our last two trips. We bought most of our souvenirs at World of Disney because we got the 10% AP discount (in February, we actually got a 20% discount for AP holders since they were having a special that month), brought everything to the cashier to have it shipped home. You do pay by the cost of the merchandise, not by weight, but you don't pay sales tax if you're shipping out of state, so one kind of balanced out the other, plus we didn't have to worry about carrying our purchases or that our luggage would weight more than the allowance. We also shipped from Mouse Gears in Epcot. The shipments were delivered by UPS about a week after we arrived home with everything accounted for and in one piece.

I've thought about shipping home before. I usually bring an empty suitcase packed inside my larger one, so one peice of luggage on the way down and 2 on the way home but now with luggage charges at $15 - $50 for a 2nd bag and adding in the hassle of dragging two pieces through airports and customs I wonder if shipping home would be easier.

Has anyone ever shipped to Canada and have an idea on the shipping rates? I know it depends on what I purchase but if anyone knows if there is a huge difference bewteen shipping to Canada and the US it might help me decide.

Every trip to Disney involves us getting an ornament personalized. We usually wait until the day before we leave to do this. We have them ship it to our house when they are done. Our wedding pictures have even been shipped by Disney. I will have to say they have done a great job of making sure nothing will get damaged. None of the ornaments have ever come in damaged. Our wedding pictures were wrapped in so much bubble wrap and other boxes, it was virtually impossible to damage them. If people are worried about damage don't be. They will help replace something if it gets damaged. The sheet enclosed in the package expalins and will help if by some chance it gets damaged. Have it shipped, don't hesitate.:)

We had 2 boxes shipped back home during our last trip. One was a box of stuff (mostly snacks, liquids over 3 oz, and anything else that should be in checked lugguage) we had shipped to our resort. That box we packed up, brought to the concierge, and filled out the address form. The 2nd was a box of souveniers bought at different Disney stores that we shipped from the resort store. For this they scan all the barcodes of the items (if any barcodes were already removed they will need the receipt) and the shipping cost is based on purchase price, not weight. The shipping receipt they give you has all your items listed so you can dbl check you received everything once your package gets back home. I didn't know you didn't have to pay sales tax when shipping at the time of purchase - not sure if it would've been cheaper to ship a few different packages and not pay sales tax or ship 1 big package since it's likely that shipping decreases per $$ amount...Either way it was worth it to have our package since I trust our purchases to be protected by Disney before I would trust the airline handeling our bags :animwink:

I bought an expensive glass gift at Downtown Disney. And it was shipped with out a knick. Actually, it looked better at home than it did in the store, almost like it was cleaned. I like the fact everything is wrapped very safely. I always ship. Less stress for me.

I bought a miniature Tink snowglobe and was told at airport security that I couldn't bring it on the plane....chemicals in the water or something. So I had to go to the airport Disney store & ship it home. Cost me $9.95 - they didn't weight it. I thought that was a crazy amount to ship a salt shaker sized snow globe that didn't come for 2 weeks.

Considering that the very cheapest UPS fare for a one pound box shipping is $6.85 going from one zip code to it's next door neighbor zip code, that rate seems quite reasonable to me.

It's not chemicals pe se.

It's that it is a liquid. You cannot carry snow globes, or any other liquids over 3oz, on with you.

How long does it take to get your stuff when you ship it home? I purchased stuff in the MK and had it shipped. This was last Friday (8/24). When should I expect to see my stuff at my doorstep?

Depends upon how far away you live. A typical package from the east coast to the west coast via UPS takes 6 business days. It also varies with your proximity to a local UPS hub.

UPS can get a box almost anywhere in the US in 1-5 days, ground. However, Disney sometimes gets that stuff out quickly and sometimes doesn't. What state is it shipping to?

I think they use the extra days for packing. They pack stuff better than anyone I've ever seen. No wonder nothing ever breaks!

I'm going to resurrect this old thread vs. make a new one. I purchased some of the lawn ornaments from EPCOT this past trip and had them shipped home. I purchased them on Friday (27 Apr) and live in MD. I hope they'll be coming soon, but my question revolves around if you receive notification when they ship. They ask for email on the mail slip, so thought maybe like other experiences/purchases, maybe I'd get some kind of confirmation on email but haven't seen anything. Does anyone know if they do/do not send one? I also don't see any messages from a 407 number on my phones....

Even if it takes a while I feel it was definitely worth it. While I ended up paying more shipping than I had planned (I wanted ot stay in the <250 range so it was only $18 but was mis-informed by the cast member as to if the shipping costs was based on pre or post discount (they said post, it was really pre, I would've dropped 1 item from shipping had I known but I guess still worth it for 5 larger boxes and 2 little ones)) Didn't have to worry about how to pack it all in the car with the suitcases and other goodies....
