It's almost a done deal.... a source close to the team tells me Shaq is flying to Phoenix tomorrow. The Heat would give up Shaq in exchange for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks. Great for the Heat because Marion is in the last year of his contract. They could re-sign him next year if they want to, OR they can let him go and gain ALOT of space under the salary cap in order to sign some new free agents. This will be a great trade for Miami when you consider the minimal impact that Shaq has had this season. He's way over the hill.
I'm still trying to figure out what the Suns are thinking. They are giving up Marion for a backup center (Shaq certainly won't start ahead of Stoudemire) who doesn't fit in to the Suns' full court "run and gun" offense. Seems to me like the Heat are getting a much better end of this deal.
The Lakers are in good shape with Andrew Bynum (the Shaq of the future) and Pao Gasol. Adding Shaq to the mix wouldn't serve any purpose if you ask me.
I did hear Phoenix is planning on giving up their run and gun style in favor of a halfcourt offense.
This just kills me as an Orlando Magic fan. Miami is actually getting something great for Shaq. I was enjoying Miami's losing ways, too. Oh well. Just hope Shaq doesn't pass the physical and is unable to be traded.
I don't know what the Suns were thinking...the Heat definitely got the better end of the deal. But as a Laker fan, I'm not complaining. This'll only hurt the Suns. And now with Pau Gasol on the Lakers, we have a better chance of winning our division.
Actually it would be a great piece to add. Shaq LOVES Steve Nash. Like really LOVES him. When they played together on the All-Star teams, he was shocked at how fast Nash plays the game. There was much talk in the Mavs going for Shaq before Nash left. After -- not so much. The two really play AWESOME together.
Miami should be penalized because they just got away with highway robbery. Miami now loses Shaq's contract, get one of the top players in the league for one year (to see if it works out before signing to a long term deal), and make Wade happy by getting him some help. But hopefully they'll still be terrible for a few more years
Phoenix just traded away their chance for a championship. What was Kerr thinking?
Shaq will be in the starting lineup with Amare moving to power forward (but Amare will play Center when Shaq is on the bench). The Suns are gonna look a whole lot slower with Shaq huffing and puffing from one end of the court to the other.
As horrible as this deal looks for the Suns, they did this because Marion wanted OUT of Phoenix. For some reason he hated it there.... He would have opted out of his contract at the end of the year anyway (has one year left with a player option). So they decided they might as well get something for him now instead of just losing him at the end of the season and getting nothing in return (other than cap space).
