Yes
Straight from the site that shall not be named. At least at the time that was filmed, Dopey hadnt taken up arms.

Just to say it, I don't believe the effect has actually been changed at all, I think the projectors may have had their bulbs replaced. Seems like the ambient moving "Gem" lights in the scene have been toned down a bit, but maybe the brightness of the projectors is just so high that it now overpowers them.

It's less that the effect has been updated and more that it's received some maintenance. Which is itself somewhat newsworthy, though it's a shame that we've reached that point.

It makes me happy to know, even if its nothing more than changing a bulb, there is a positive noticeable improvement and it shows someone working the parks cares.

Oh, I just thought of something, the site that shall not be mentioned, who reported this, IS BACK ON THE DISNEY MEDIA LIST! So we have a positive story here by them..... Hmmmmmm.. Coincidence??

Why do people put their arms up when on a moving roller coaster?
I think it promotes more air time, but I have always thought it looked foolish. It's not like there is a ton of airtime on the Mine Train anyway. I also always thought that you got the exact same air time even if you are holding on to something in front of you. Just never made any sense to me at all.

Was this effect one of the things recycled for Snow White's Enchanted Wish?

Blah blah psychobabble regarding our desire to feel the sensation of flight. The wind rushing against our arms provides that and releases those feel good endorphins.

Space Mountain riders blah blah masochism.

No that is not it. People put their arms up on a coaster because of physics. During moments of high G forces, it becomes a challenge, and almost impossible at times, to keep your arms over your head. The best Disney example of this is after the big drop on Expedition Everest during the turns at the end. I have challenge my girls each time, and invariably, our arms are forced down.

There is a Dwarf Shadow Projection effect in Enchanted Wish, and it's almost certainly built from the same base elements that the Mine Train projections were (the rotoscoped film animation), but they are both separate digital assets.

If you're wondering whether the Enchanted Wish projections are now being used in the Mine Train, the answer is no. It's the same set of projections Mine Train had from opening day. Just more visible now than they had become.

Even if that is true, which it might be, there are so few people that actually know that at all. It is an exercise in useless. It doesn't give more airtime and it blocks the views of others that are just trying to have a fun ride and see the details and makes everyone look silly. Stick 'um up! However, I'm just expressing my opinion and I don't have a dog in this race at all. So hands up or hands down, do what is fun for you.

People do it because it feels fun. It makes roller coasters feel more out of control than when you hold on tight.

Nobody's calculating the physics. It's pretty intuitive.

Or someone used windex and wiped the grit and dust off the bulbs.

it adds that much more to the thrill. Without a hand hold you feel like you might leave the seat. Us daredevils will do anything to add to the experience. Thats why Dis adds lap bars and seat belts to try to keep us under control.
