Shades of Green- MYW

My family is considering staying at the Shades of Green, and I'm trying to understand the difference in package options between ShoG and traditional Disney resorts.

For example, it appears that Magical Express transportation isn't available to ShoG. Is that right?

Can we get Magic Your Way packages w/Dining? Though I see that there are no ShoG restaurants that participate in that dining plan.

Any insight into the differences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Are you or anyone in your family who is going a member of the military or DOD? As Shades of Green isn't really a Disney resort and I don't believe they have access to Magical Express or the DDP.

Yes, my brother is and there's a military special on park tickets, so that's why we're considering going. But in the past we've stayed at WL and dont the MYW w/dining package. I just wasn't sure how things work when staying at Shades of Green. And I'm more of a planner than him. :animwink:

We stayed at Shades of Green the first time this past Nov. While it was a nice restort, it was different than any Disney resort. There is no Magical Express to and from airport. They do however have transportation between the parks and resort. But they do not participate in the dining plan. That was one thing I miss not being able to have. But seeing that the hotel part of the trip was paid for by my inlaws as a gift.. who was I to complain.

Shades of Green is not a Disney owned or operated resort. That means they do not participate in Magical Express, nor can you get the Disney Dining Plan there. SoG guests can take part in Extra Magic Hours, however.

Are you aware of the current resort discount for military members? 40% off rack rates, for most dates through the end of 2009. If you are looking for a package, this would be the way to go. Read here:

Mousefan is correct, the 40% off of rooms is a great option. It brings the moderates down to the cost of Shades of Green, and the values are even cheaper. Then you can add the dining plan, use magical express, and still get the Armed Forces Salute tickets.

If you need any help pricing things, I'd be happy to help. I just ran some prices for someone doing this exact thing this week.:)
