SGE Pre-Show

So I'm reading through the other thread that asks why Stitch's Great Escape is still here... and I started thinking to myself.. Yea, the actually main attraction is just kinda "eh," but why is my personal opinion different on the attraction than everyone else's?

I dont hate it, but I also don't really care for it.. It's just.. "eh"

And then I start thinking... I really like the pre-show! I mean when you think about, both of the two sections are really well done actually! It holds your attention, it's funny, and the AAs are VERY impressive to look at! I also enjoy the underscore throughout the pre-shows. And it actually kind of makes a first-timer wonder what on earth is about to happen when the robot starts panicking about "level three."

And then you get to the actual attraction after that really good pre-show and it's jut.. Well. "eh"

Am I the only one out there that thinks the same way here? Doesn't anyone else think both of the two pre-shows are pretty well done?

I'm one of the weirdos who actually quite enjoys SGE. I remember back in the 70's when it was 'Mission to Mars' as well as AE and even so find the current one quite fun. I usually ride only if the wait doesn't exceed 10-15 mins but don't really understand the hate it receives on here.

But hey, ho, there you go. I'm obviously a strange person

I really enjoyed it as AE. It was insanely scary to me, even as a teen. It was fantastic.

But, that's why it was short lived....it didn't belong in the MK. If it had been in the Studios, I bet it would still be AE.

The Stitch version is lame. We only do it if we're tired or hot, AND there is nobody in line.

I either take a first timer on the ride or use it as an AC break. The past few times I went on it there wasn't a line.... There really wasn't anyone there. This was in the summer as well so the parks were busy.

As for the pre-show, it's sad that the people find it more entertaining than the ride.

Yeah, the pre-show really sets things up masterfully. It helps that it was Richard Kind, as he's delightful. Having said that, they really should have had Pleakley say more over the intercom. You go to all that trouble to bring back Kevin McDonald and you DON'T have him say anything funny? Such a waste!

I personally think he should have been in the actual attraction segment instead of those two captain-mates from the beginning of the movie. And Jumba should have been asked to capture Stitch when he escape, have some shadows of him on the wall shooting with a blaster and such..

Pretty much all the attractions at the Magic Kingdom involve some type of animatronic characters, whether it's pirates, ghosts, country bears, tiki birds, mermaids... that's what the place is known for and what people expect to see, and that's what the pre-show revolves around

The main show on the other hand, involves a few seconds of this really impressive Stitch figure, who quickly disappears, and then you're subjected to farts and burps in the dark while waiting to see the really the really cool Stitch figure again. It's like the original Journey into Imagination was 15 minutes of amazing looking stuff, then they cut it down to about 5 minutes of farts and burps in the dark, and they somehow thought this would be enjoyable and entertaining to "the guests"

It's still there for the same reason River Country is still there, because it's cheaper to do nothing that do something... that building is a couple giant, hexagonal, "honeycomb", shaped rooms with not internal supports, so it seems like it would be really difficult to reconfigure the space without the roof collapsing , and to make matters worse the People Mover track wraps around the outside of the building, then cuts though the middle, so that's probably why they've never tired to change the original Mission to Mars lay out of the ride

Stitch is the best thing they could come up with to fit that building, and it would be a logistical and financial nightmare to change it ...but the pre-show is pretty good

It's got all the right ingredients they just somehow missed the mark on execution. The AA's in my opinion are some of the best in MK and the idea behind it is sound but then somehow it seems to fall on it's face. I actually enjoyed it for the experience...could do without the chilli dog but other than that it was OK. Once and done sorta thing though for us.

Yeah, they play up to much of the rambunctious humor and missed out on WHY Lilo & Stitch is considered the only real hit of the period post-Tarzan/ pre-Lasseter era.

I've said this before, but Haunted Mansion has a hanging rotting corpse of a person who killed himself. I don't see how it makes AE any less appropriate.

The SGE preshow is really only good because it rides off the coat tails of the vastly superior AE effects and animatronics. The "I just oiled myself" line kills the preshow for me though.

This doesn't make sense to me because the main attraction "rides off the coat tails" of previous AE effects too.

While the effects are quite good, it still could have been bad. Like the main attraction. I honestly think the concept and the script for the pre-show was just really well done making it quite entertaining.
