Sesame Street parks? They're Muppets/Disney right?

So yesterday it crossed my mind how Sesame Place is essentially a theme park about Muppets. It's an Anheuser-Busch park but the properties are all Muppets. Not to mention the Sesame street portion of Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Plus they have thier Marvel characters out at Universal...so basically what's NOT Disney these days?

Anyhow...what are the odds Disney may take over a Sesame Place or (once whatever contract is finished) theme a land for children after the Sesame characters (New York at DHS?) in Orlando or Anaheim? How about an entire Sesame Place style park/5th gate?

They are two completely different things. Different companies and everything. Also the muppets are more for the older crowd.

Yes, they are all Jim Hensons creation, but apparently they have two different owners. It sucks, because Sesame Street characters would do really well at the parks.

They're Muppets in that they were created by Jim Henson, however Disney does not own them. The Sesame Street Muppets are owned by the Children's Television Workshop.

The Muppet characters seen on Sesame Street are owned by the Childrens Television Workshop and always have been. Disney does not own those charatcers.

The only grey area would be when Kermit appears on Seasme Street (and I don't think he appears at Sesame Place).

AFAIK, Sesame Place (and thus Anheiser-Busch) essentially pays for the rights to use the Sesame Street name and charatcers.

EDIT: LOL, looks like lilclerk and I posted the same thing at the same time. ;)

I really had no idea...how much do you figure the Sesame street property costs? Would Disney eventually want it? That way they'd have ALL the muppets and be able to do a Muppet Movie sequel or something lol...

Who knows if CTW would ever sell them. But I would love another Muppet special with all the Muppets. A Muppet Family Christmas with the Muppets and Sesame Street characters all together is one of my favorite TV specials ever
