September Questions

1) According to www.weatherbase.com there are on average 14 rainy days in September. That compares to 14 in June, 17 in July, 16 in August. Does it really rain that much in September?

2) I read that Disney has a deal with schools who plan field trips in September for EPCOT and to stay away during the week because it is swamped with kids. Is there any truth to this?

Thanks in advance.

September 10th is the peak of hurricane season. We have gone 6x in September because of the low crowds and have hit rain every time. However, only once did it rain more than a few hours. Usually it rains an hour or so in the middle of the afternoon and then it stops...No worries

As far as the school groups at Epcot during the week, I read that somewhere too. We went last year in September and I don't remember there being large groups of kids around....and we were at Epcot a few different times during the week.

Really anytime after Labor Day is a good time to go. Crowds are very light. In October, crowds will increase because of the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot and the MNSSHP at the Magic Kingdom.

There are a few things to take into consideration though when planning on going in September. First, weather can be a factor. September is the height of hurricane season and you do risk getting rained on. Second, the park hours are shorter. However, it is so quiet, you can get everything done with no problem. Finally and maybe most importantly, some major attractions can go down for rehab in Sept/Oct. Last year during our stay, Big Thunder was down for rehab. Also in September, RockNRoller was down and the Animation Tour, just not when we were there...

We love going in either Sept or late Jan/early Feb. Good luck choosing

We went the second week of September two years ago. The crowds were very light and I didn't notice large groups of school kids in Epcot. We did have several days where it rained--usually short bursts and then it was over. Overall, I think it was a really good time to go.

I've done one trip in late Sept and one in early Oct. Both were comparable in crowds...very light. Wait times less than 10 minutes. Rain was minimal, for either trip we only had rain on one day. But for both it seem to be unseasonally hot and humid.

weather.com has some real good historical data on temperatures. Allearsnet.com has a good listing of rides that will be closed.

I love September. We have been a few times in September and it has rained almost everyday each time we went. However, the rains would come and go. We had our trusty old ponchos that got us through the days. The rain kept the temperatures down and the crowds were very light. I also do not remember any groups from schools at the parks. I highly recommend going in September.

We're going in Sept and I have a question about the rain. Will it cancel things like Cinderella's Surprise Celebration, Share a Dream Come True, etc? Or will those perform rain or shine?

All this talk about rain brings to mind our trip to Blizzard Beach. We went to WDW in Oct. We were there for 4 days but chose to go to BB on the day it was drizzling off and on all day. Gee hardly anyone was at BB. There couldn't have been more than 100 people in the whole park. Your going to get wet anyway so why not go when it is raining.

We almost always travel to Disney in September. Two years ago we only had brief showers. Four years ago it never rained at the park at all. The only rain was a thunderstorm while we were sitting at the airport waiting for our return flight. It delayed the plane by about 2 hours. I would rather risk a few showers than all the crowds during the summer vacation.

I agree but is it better than November? Almost no rain and cooler temps. That is my dilemma. September is just sooner and I don't know if I can wait.

I liked September better than November, but my dislike of November was it was beginning to get more crowded towards the end of our trip getting closer to Thanksgiving week. It was much cooler in November, though.

The rain has never kept me from seeing any displays in September. They were mostly small showers and the shows went on. If any thunderstorms came, they left very quickly.

My family and I went to WDW in Nov. a few years ago (pre-thankgiving) and crowds were pretty light. The only downside is that it got pretty cold in the evenings. We ended up buying sweatshirts for everyone to fight off the chill. It also meant strategically planning for wet rides. You don't want to walk around wet all day, but if you wait too long, it is miserable in the cold. The other side of that coin is that we were able to stay in the parks longer and without a break in the middle of the day because the humidity wasn't so bad.
