September or December?

Need some disney advice. We only visit WDW in January and by only I mean in 20+ years of annual visits we've been only twice at different times of the year. DH and I can't wait till January 14 so we want to move up our next trip.

The options are mid September or first week of December. I'd rather go in September but DH is concerned about taking DD who's 4 out of preschool for a week. He wants to see the Xmas decorations in December but I feel it's too close to our usual trip time so what's the benefit. Plus i'm wondering if it'll be more crowded.

Our biggest concerns are that we go at an off peak time for low crowds and that it not be awful temperature wise. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

I think a child can miss a week of preschool and still get into kindergarten! What do they do? Play, nap, learn colors, read books...nothing most parents aren't doing, anyway. It's not like she's missing trig. :)

Either way will be fine, IMO.

December will be cooler than August, for sure! :)

Since 2005, we have gone every year but 2006 and all but two of those years were in Sept. The other two were the 1st week of Dec and the 2nd week of Dec. Sept is hotter and we ran into more Brazilian guests and (IMO) more rudeness in general in the parks and on the buses. Mid to late Sept, you have the crane (for installing Christmas lights) in all your Castle pics and in Epcot, they are setting up for the F&W Festival so you have lots of boarded up stands all over. The first week of Dec, the decorations are not 100% set in MK (due to the Christmas Parade filming). The 2nd week of Dec was best for us. Temps were nice, crowds were still fairly low and friendlier (IMO) and Christmas was in full swing. Just my experience. I'd go again in a heart beat the 2nd week of Dec again. Hope you enjoy whenever you go.

Ok, I'm doing Sept for the first time so I can't speak from experience with that, but we have done early December. We found the crowds to be a bit higher than expected, but not too bad. On the flip side, the weater is more variable. That time of year can be quite comfortable, randomly hot, or in the case of our 2010 trip- quite cold. I did live in FL for several years and Sept is very much like August, IMO...at least when it comes to weather. So, I think it really boils down to "Christmas decor & cooler temps" vs. "fall/Halloween decor & warmer temps."

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
Definitely December!! Crowds are lower, and frankly IMHO its the best time of the year to go and can't be beat due to the Christmas festivities and decorations. Trust me it will be very different than going in mid January. You won't regret it! We went once in Dec rather than earlier fall and we always go back in early Dec every time we go now. Prices are cheaper too than Sept the last I checked. :)

Ive never been in Dec. But I do love Sept. I've always been able to walk on most rides. I also love the Halloween decor/treats & HalloWishes! But I do have to agree that Dec weather will be better and not to mention Sept ADRs have been open for sometime so you may not get the dining reservations you want. Thats tough... 4yr old seeing Disney at Christmas or trick or treating in the Magic Kingdom dressed as their favorite character.... Idk either? Id go with Sept, because if you have to wait til Dec than you might as well wait for Jan. Either way it will be a nice change from Jan!

We went the last week of September this past year. The crowds weren't much lower than our visit in June of 09' but, I think that might be due to the F&W Festival & the TOT ten miler. The weather was good but, hot & humid. We are thinking about a trip the 1st week of December this year but, not sure about the cooler temps. I like HOT!

Don't worry about the kid missing a week of preschool. Honestly, I think preschool is great, but what damage could it possibly do missing a week?

We went from December 3-9 2011 and I would go then all the time if I could. The family we went with did take their kids out of a week of school ( they were 8, 7, and 5 at the time) and we had a blast. The weather was definitely cooler, we had to wear long sleeves in the am with our shorts, but the lines were non-existent and the Christmas decor in the parks and the hotels were amazing. We rose BTMRR three times in a row without getting off, that's how short the lines were. I loved it!

My vote would also be December, much less humid, and hurricane season has ended. If you avoid the days just before Christmas till after the New Year, you will miss most of the crowds. I'm trying to figure out a trip the first few week or second week of December this year, as I so enjoyed a trip two years ago around Christmas.
