Separate rooms and kitchen

I used to stay in property (Floridian, Contemporary and Polinesian) resorts for years but after my wife and I had our first child we started staying off property (Residence Inn) because of the separate room, living room and kitchen arrangement inside our suite. The kids (age 2 and 4) can sleep in room #2 while we are watching tv in the living room or cook without interrupting their sleep. All withing the same room. Similar to a small apartment.

We are happy with the RInn but wanted to try something different.

Are there any resorts inside the property that offer this setup?

You should try staying at the Fort Wilderness Cabins. They have a seperate bedroom with a queen bed and a set of bunkbeds. It has a seperate bathroom as well as a living room/kitchen/dining room that as all your kitchen needs, a dining table, a couch, a tv, and a murphy bed. It also has a deck outside with a grill and a picnic table. The campgrounds also offer many other things a normal resort doesnt have. You can see the electric water parade, go to the petting zoo, or see the nighttime campfire movie.

The Disney Vacation Club Villas would also be a good option. You do not have to be a vacation club member to stay in one....you book it just as you would any room on property. The one bedroom villas have a full kitchen, washer and dryer (huge plus for us), a living area with a sofer sleeper, a seperate bedroom with a king size bed, two bathroom areas (one area has the toilet, sink and stand up shower....the other area has a whirlpool tub and sink).

The only downside is that you can only get a king bed....there is not the option of two queens. However, they also have two bedroom villas that have an extra bedroom with two queens, and another full bath. But they are quite a bit more expensive than the one bedroom.

The family suites at the All Star Music resort could also be an option for you.

We just came back from a trip at the Villas! We used the 1 bedroom apartment- there is a tv in both the living and bedrooms. It sounds like the All-star suites might work better for you. You also get double the bathrooms. (Without having to pay for the 2 bedroom villa in the deluxe resort. It will be the more affordable option.)

Your 2 best options cost wise will be one of the All Star Suites or the cabins at Ft Wilderness. I was very pleasantly surprised by the all star suites. The All Star suites have 2 bathrooms, a mini kitchen a living room that converts into a bed room and a bed room. We have 3 kids and it worked out great.. You have already heard a very accurate description of the cabins and while they are nicer than the suites they are also a bit more cost wise.

You and I think alike. I have not found a truly satisfactory on-site solution since my son was born. I may try the All-Star suites next trip, but everything else on-site that offers a separate bedroom is, frankly, far more than I feel like paying, given that I can rent an entire house 10 minutes away for about $110/night.

I can tell you that I was very impressed by the suites. With a party of 5 we have stayed in 2 connecting rooms at the All Stars from time to time and I expected the suites to be pretty much what I was use to with 2 rooms. The reality of it turned out to be much better than what I expected. They are set up like a true suite with a living area that converts into a bedroom, a kitchen with a fridge, sink, microwave and utensils, a master bedroom and 2 bathrooms. While it is not as big as a whole house (done that option to) it is one of the better on property options. You get all the benefits of the house plus all the benefits of staying on site (EMH, room charges, DME, Free parking, etc.)

Yep. My main objection to the suites is that they go for $200-$300 a night, depending upon season, so for the spring break trip we're considering, which is during high season, it's $1,200 for a week, even using the 4+3 deal. I can get a 3 bedroom condo nearby for $400-$600, and a 3-4 bedroom house for $800, making it possible for my parents or in-laws to drop by for a few days if they so choose. Staying on site has lots of benefits, but I'm not sure they justify the extra cost.

The cost kept me down for a while as well. The main issue for us was Disney's one time policy of not discounting suites so while we could get great AP and Fl resident rates on everywhere else they were still at rack rates. They finally abandoned that policy (at least for the all star suites) and the suites went for only a few bucks more that 2 rooms at a value. There is no question that you can get more bang for your buck on the room only off property but we just love to stay in WDW. Every time we stay off property for one reason or another the money we save always seems trivial compared to the magic we give up.

We have stayed off site on several occasions @ Wilson World...they are closed:( Wish I had insight to a nice suite that is reasonably priced for a family of five:shrug:

we used to stay at the Poly but needed more room now and found the Beach Club Villas to be fantastic! Lots of room with a full kitchen and laundry. The resort was wonderful, great pool. Short walk to Epcot and could get anywhere in a few minutes with rental car. The Disney transportation was good, but I had small children and handicapped people with me. Would highly recomened.

Try staying at a DVC villa, it is definitely the best way to go, we ahve a family of five and it works well for us. we bought in years ago at BWV and BLT but you can also rent points. Davids Vacation Rentals who advertises on this site is a very good place to go. For the price between $10 and $13 a point you can get great accomodations and save money.
