SENTINEL: Disney reverses teens' ban for life but defends handling of incident

Yesterday I was talking with a security guard and then I said "BTW, everyone appreciates how you guys are cleaning up DTD."

It's simply the truth. Call it what you want, racism or whatever people use these days as an excuse when in the wrong, the vast majority of people I have casually surveyed have said something along the lines of: "about time."

If it's largely blacks that are going there in packs and intimidating the guests, then yah, the numbers will lean toward more black getting banned. Good to see DTD officials doing their job by getting rid of the riff raff when they see it rather than worrying about racial quotas. The kids acted like punks, asked to leave, got confrontational, and then banned.

Hopefully, we can see decrease in the "gangs" of "loud and obnoxious" groups at DTD and the Parks!

I hope they keep their watch out for those "Gangs of loud and obnoxious Cheerleaders" . Or those "Gangs of Conventioners" (especially during the
F&W Festival) . But they are Guest$ with Re$ort and Park$ Admi$$ion.

what about the upcmoning season form brazil? will they get punished for utinating in the bushes this year? for being rude & obnoxious when ur stuck in a small place, say the foyer of hm? for thinking its funny to stomp on some poor guests foot in the crowd? if disney wishes to start craking down on one group they need to give all the same treatment.:p

It's been said that there is no such thing as bad press/attention. Hopefully the 'gangs' and disruptive groups of teens and young adults are getting word of the crackdown at DTD and will simply find a new place to hang out. Disney and Orange County officals must NOT back down from their stance and use this as an example that they won't take any type of inappropriate behavior anymore and not cave under the pressure from the media trying to once again exaggerate and sensationalize the situation for a good headline. I very much doubt these were 4 innocent teens sitting quietly in a corner of DTD enjoying a soda and a churro. It is a fact that they were trying to get into 21 and older PI clubs which would draw attention to them and were reportedly rude and inappropriate with the security officials. The trespass warning was correct, banning them from Disney for life was a bit of a stretch and I believe the resort's final decision was appropriate.

Great. Now they set a precedent.
Sadly, they certainly have set a bad one.
I still think the latest have been racially motivated. I wonder if I, a white male in my 20's were to go just sit around DTD, if I would be asked to leave. Nowhere did it say they did anything wrong except take exception to being told to leave. I'm sure they felt they were being singled out for their race, in which case I'd have probably been snippy too.

There has been no evidence that they were harassing people, cursing loudly, shoplifting. They were just young black men hanging out. I guess thats a crime to Disney now. If they were doing something worse than just hanging out then I'd have no problem with it, and if its shown that they were then I'll reverse my opinion. But until then, if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck.
You seem pretty sure of what did happen, to infer a corp. like Disney would condone racism. Then you must also think that the Orange County Sheriffs Dept. condones racism also. As a male Caucasian you should be concerned about the large amount of White males that are removed from WDW. I'm sure that number will not show up in the Orlando paper. All you know is what those 17 year old boys said, and the slanted views of the local press. They were asked to leave, they refused, they were charged. If you want to draw the race card then you must draw it for everyone. If no more removal of African-Americans or Hispanics from Disney property, was implemented would that make you feel better or more secure? Until proven otherwise I am inclined to believe that Disney Security, and the Orange County Sheriffs Dept. acted in the best interest of the public rather than the statements made by teenage boys of their innocence.
This is why I would probably suck at being a PR guy but I would have had a lot more respect for Disney or any company for that matter if they stuck to their guns. I would have loved to see a Disney rep come out and say that these individuals were told the consequences and they did it anyway so sucks for them.
I completely agree with your statement.
