Secret Passage in Animal Kingdom

Between Asia and Africa lies the hidden pathway at Animal Kingdom. It's located off of the smoking pathway and right next to the tables and chairs. I revisited the passage not too long ago and took this photo...

As you can see the water level on one of the streams has risen above the stepping stones making it impossible to pass now.

I wish Disney would make more of these hidden gems with future devolpment.

finding those hidden paths is one of my favorites little pleasures at the parks. i found that one once...sad that it's gone. i think that it may not have been intended as a passage, due to the water, so maybe it was a safety hazard? hmm...

I had always heard about the secret path over at DAK, but I never did really go out looking for it.

I can see why Disney wouldn't want guests going in the area though. People are idiots and someone would get hurt.

Agreed that finding meandering, empty paths is great. Geesh, everytime I'm at AK, I enjoy it more and more. It's beautiful.

If anyone has a map of DAK, you can kind of see that this pathway is semi somewhat marked on the map... right at the smoking section symbol it shows 2 paths, one over the top of the other and going over 2 streams of water.

Your in exactly the right spot. The pathway actually branches off of the northern most walkway which is now the a smoking area(listed on the map).

In the smoking area there is a covered section with tables and chairs. That's where the hidden pathway begins.

I originally found out about the pathway by reading an older "Unofficial Guide to WDW". They wouldn't give out it's location so I had to go hunting. It took me about an hour to find after questioning about 15 CM's. Supprisingly, not many AK cast members know about it.

No, not at all. However, you must have a keen sense of the obvious to find this "hidden path". :lol:

5 years ago the answer would have been "no, you won't get in trouble."
But now I'm not so sure. The last time I was at the "pathway" there were 2 AK cm's walking out while I was walking in. They didn't say anything to me. I'll have to ask my friend Matt who is a Guest Relations CM at AK and see what he has to say about it.
