Second thoughts on 50's Prime Time Cafe??

Me again!

I have reservations already booked for the 50's Prime Time Cafe, but after reading some reviews I am not sure if it's going to be right for us? It seems fun - but I can't see my boyfriend being best pleased if he gets told off for having his elbows on the table?! Trust me, we aren't serious - but we are aiming to have quite a romantic trip, and it is just the two of us - no kids (other than me! :) and I'm 30)! I'm torn as I really like the look of the restaurant theme - plus I want a peanut butter and jelly milkshake! Is it possible that I could just walk past and pop in for a milkshake at the bar (if there is one) - as at the moment my gut instinct is that I may need to cancel my ADR's? :(

Yeah if you arent into the "show" part of it, I would skip it. If you are looking for something nice and quiet at the Studios go for the Brown Derby. Great ambience and decor. Food isnt as good as it used to be unfortunately, but thats largely the case all over property at the moment.

The ScFi is also a very neat place to eat at the Studios.

Have fun!!

Thanks both for the quick replies!

I will check out the Brown Derby then and maybe change - we ate at the Sci Fi last year and loved the atmosphere - really chilled - so that's also an option!

Good to know I can just walk in and get a milkshake - sounds like this is going to be the best of both worlds!!

I love the atmosphere at the 50's Prime Time, but they most definintely will bug you! When I went there a few years ago, the waitress wouldn't let me order dessert until I finished my vegetables! She even put them on the fork and did the airplane into my mouth. I was 25 at the time- and I tend to embarress easily. I was bright red!

My husband and I went last year because he had never been (I was with my mom the first time). Our waitress was a lot more mellow and it was more of a 'normal' dining experience. She wasn't really into her character at all but still very friendly and pleasant. So I guess it depends on who you get!

You want your trip to be perfect though so if you are at all uneasy, just change it :)

Tell mr tuff guy to chill and have some fun. They arent as bad kiding around as they used to be.Go there early the food is the best just after they open for lunch.Best fried chicken on earth and deserts. If you only eat at one place on property eat at 50s.If the boyfriend doesnt care for a little Disney fun ditch him!

I seem to be one of the few people who actively *hates* SciFi and 50's Prime Time. They food is mediocre at best, over priced, and the atmosphere doesn't make up for the short comings at all. I'd save my money and time and go to an actual nice place to eat. I think DHS has some of the worst food at WDW, only I don't think I ate more than three meals at the park last trip...

I've never had a bad meal anywhere in DHS- I've eaten at Sci Fi, 50's and Hollywood and Vine. All meals were great! I like themed restaurants, I think it adds to the fun! And I'd gladly pay a little extra for the theming!

Well good job that I listen to you guys - just gone online and canceled 50's prime time - instead have booked Artist Point at Wilderness lodge, as I could only get the Brown Derby for 6pm which is too early for us. Artist Point is booked for 9pm, which means we can make the most of extra hours at DHS and then head to Wilderness Lodge (first time to go to that hotel) for a meal and a nice bottle of wine! :slurp:
Hope that you all think that Artist point is okay, as otherwise I'm gonna be having another dilemma!!

Hahaha - "ditching him" prob isn't the best thing to do on our Disney Wedding planning trip! :ROFLOL:Made me laugh though! And there is part of me that would crack up if he got shouted at!!! However, I am trying to ease him in gently to my Disney madness - and so far so good as he is totally up for a Disney wedding! Maybe I will save the Prime Time for our honeymoon!!!

Chiming in a little late since you already made your swap, but most of the CM's will pick up on your reaction to their kidding and tone it up/down respectively. I agree that you should give it a chance sometime, just to see.

50's is not that bad... been there a couple of times and nobody was ever rude... More of a funny Mom attitude/personality, than rude.

We may go back again this year on Thanksgiving Day...still trying to decide...

Tink:

I really do not understand how eating at the 50'S diner is not romantic and of course fun. You see part of the magic of Disney is just being together enjoying a good laugh and enjoying the experience. My wife and I are both young (40's) and had are children when we were extremely young (teens). We go to Disney just the two of us since the kids are grown. We have a ball. I have had a few goofy waiters at the 50's Diner but it was fun. I guess what I am trying to say is lighten up a bit and just kick back and have a good laugh and feel like a kid again. That's what we do and I wouldn't have it any other way.

On our first visit to 50's there were 7 of us. me, my dad, older sister and nephew, and younger sister and 2 nephews. we had cousin Jeff as our waiter and he was fun. Not "overbearing" at all. There was a group at the next table and the lady kept putting her elbows on the table....finally, he walked up to her and stood there until she realized what she had done! She started yelling, "NO, NO, oh no!!!!" they were all laughing because before we got there, he had told her if she did it one more time he was going to make her do the teapot song!......well, she was a good sport and got up to do it and could not remember the words so we all had to help her out! And she was a KINDERGARTEN teacher!!!!! TOO FUNNY!

My youngest nephew, Chris learned the phrase, "tattle tale, tattle tale, shame shame shame!" and we listened to him the ENTIRE trip! It was good fun!

on our 2nd visit this past may, we had a "mom" character and she was not as "easy going" as cousin jeff was.

My dad does not care for the place because of the "atmosphere" but the food he likes. I guess if you go in with a group of people it is more fun than just one or two people.

it all depends on the temperment of the people you are with...you either hate it or love it!
