Seating on Rides

When I went to Disney, I noticed that on Malstrom and the Mexican boat ride(I can't spell the real name) that they were only seating 2 in a row for everybody. It was pretty busy, so it wasen't because there was no one there. This never happened before either. Any reasons on why they would do this?

We were told that they seat only 2 per row when the water level is low. Don't know if that was the case when you were there, but it might explain it.

It makes sense...they can even out the weight that way. But since it is a controlled ride with recycled water, why would it have low water levels at all?

I can see that happening on The Land or Malestrum because they cut the capacity in order to put Fastpass there (think, cut capacity, longer wait, get Fastpass). Every park has a Fastpass quota now. 5 or 6 now. Epcot is behind. But Mexico is never busy, because it crap :hurl: .

Spaceship Earth needs a fast pass. It probably has the third largest average line in WDW. First being Test TRack, second Splash Mountain.

Well I have never seen Spaceship Earth have a longer line than say Thunder Mountain or Peter Pan. Spaceship Earth probably needs it less than any ride on property. The lines are always short and it moves continuasly.

Spaceship Earth is probably the fastest loader on property. I don't think it needs FastPass...
During busy times, the best time to ride is just before or during Illunimations.

I've been during Spring Break & Christmas / New Years. I've never had to wait in a line at Spaceship Earth. WE've always been able to walk right in.

The longest wait I've ever had for Spaceship Earth was about 20 minutes, and this was at park opening during peak season--and you should never ride Spaceship Earth at park opening, cuz everyone rides it first...but it was POURING out so we were content to stand under the building where it should rain but never does (think about it...if disney weren't doing anything with the water that lands on Spaceship Earth, there would be a waterfall at the bottom...but there isn't! Disney Magic!).

First of all, try to never go to WDW on spring break. It is the 2nd worst time of the year to visit the parks. I always go in September after Labor Day to insure no crowds.

Secondly, Spaceship Earth was designed to collect all of the water that hits it durring a rainfall and funnels it into the fountain or the Lagoon. It's a fact! Ask a SE cast member!

I have only waited longer than 10 minutes for SE and that was in 1982 when the park first openned. We waited an hour! Now, there are so many other things to see that usually everyone will pass it up and come back later. Now I walk right on every time I go. Some people even miss it because they don't know it's a ride. Since there is no line outside of the building when I go, people don't even notice it!

I disagree. The lines are usually quite large when I go.
Sorry, but Disney Insider is correct. The ride in fact does have a long line sometimes, but it's a quick line, too. That's because cars are always coming and going without interruptions, save when someone with disabilities is getting on, and also because each car holds 5 or 6 people.

I've always walked on spaceship earth. No line. Even when the parks are crowded. I would hate to see the lines for test track if SE was a long wait.

Same here...I was there at the beginning of the Spring Break period this year, and walked right on the Golfball, even when Test Track stopped handing out Fastpasses about 4 hours before closing that day.

Those busy times for SSE would be about an hour after opening until the mid-afternoon. After that, you can pretty much walk right on... 365 days a year.

And really, the strategy of walking past the longer queues is one you may wish to consider, whichever park you're at. Pick up a FastPass instead. Definately, as you enter, check the 'tip board', but as you proceed through the parks, keep in mind that the majority of an audience is never at all places at once!

Those tip board locations:
> MK, on the left side of Main Street, at the end nearest the hub (closer to the Castle)
> Disney/MGM Studios, on the right, just as the street splits off towards Tower of Terror
> DAK, on the right, just after you cross the bridge over the canal
> Epcot, in the center of Innoventions plaza (just past SSE)

Just lopping more of the same into this thread...

We walked on Spaceship Earth the day before yesterday at about 3:00 pm. Isn't it peak season???

True, SE has a queue at opening due to the many first-timers charging in to find out what's inside that big dang ball.

Other than then, SE's queue is short and moves quite fast. No Fastpass needed.

Where would the Fastpassers enter anyhow???
