seagulls are back and testing (photos)

(now with photos!)
Took the monorail to Epcot last night and when it went past the Living Seas we saw the seagulls (3 I believe?) on the rocks by the nemo sign (made me wonder if the water effect will be back or not, they were right in the way.) They had imagineers sitting under a tent there with their testing board and were setting up their animation, pretty neat to see (we went by to quickly to see exactly what they were doing, if it was sound or movement we wern't sure.) They are definately the 'mine' seagulls from Finding Nemo.

The new leaf signs were all over all the parks as well, replacing the banners on the light posts. They looked pretty nice with the theming of each park and not too out of place in my opinion. I like how the characters are 'hidden' with silhouettes on the leaves. (If you havn't seen them, they are big 7 foot tall or so pink, purple, and yellow fabric leaves at the hub and entrance of each park, and then there are smaller versions on the lamp posts.)

Thanks very much for the update, that would have been fun to watch them programming the Seagulls, shame you can only see it for a split second on the monorail.

I wonder if the water effect will be the trigger for them. That would be kind of a cool way to integrate things (and not have CONSTANT mine-ing).

I think someone on here posted a pic of them, dunno which thread though, sorry, but I do know mouseplanet.com also has some pics in their most recent WDW update.

It won't be that bad. Our rotations are every hour.

That's assuming CDS works "as intended," not "as it usually does."

After 2.5 hours of "Mine mine mine!" I promise to look the other way as you bludgeon it with the little wicker broom and dustpan and then dispose of its still sparking electrical body in a nearby trashcan or behind some rocks.

(Edit to add: All said in jest, and I have no intention of harming any seagulls, animatronic or real)

Out of curiosity, how do these leaves tie into the Year of Dreams theme? Maybe I'm being too thick-headed but I just don't get it.

They're not leaves, they're fairy locusts.

They artisticly represent the oversaturation of celebrations as a draining force that is creating strain and depleting resources - like an unfightable plague. They mildly resemble tinkerbell.

I can see it now....in the year 2052...The 50th anniversary of the 100 years of Disney Celebration. :D
