Sea World or Universal?

I have an 'extra' day for my vacation at Disney and I'm thinking about spending it off property and either visiting Universal Studios or Sea World. I've never been to either and was wondering everyone's opinion?

I guess it totally depends what you're after. If you want to visit somewhere that has lots of thrilling rides then Universal is probably the right place to go, but if you'd prefer just a few thrill rides and a bit more of an educational experience with lots of shows and animals then SeaWorld is for you. I'd suggest looking at their websites and just picking which one appeals to you more. Both are great places to visit!

SeaWorld - without question.

USF & IOA are too much to attempt both in one day - so which do you pick ?? USF is a poor second to MGM (OK perhaps MIB and The Mummy stand out) and IOA, while some of rides stand out (Hulk, Spiderman etc) the rest are the sort that a similar experience can be found in any amusement park (plus the theming suffers when compared to WDW).

Therefore it HAS to be SW - its a much more relaxed place, no constant jostling in lines for rides (theres only two - Kraken and Journey To Atlantis - both well worth riding) the remainder of the park is made up of shows and exhibits.

Ordinarily, I would pick Sea World. But right now, I think I would pick Universal simply because I really want to try out that Mummy ride. Seems I always have a knack of visiting these parks when there is a ride in the process of being built. LOL In 2003, we did Sea World, Busch Gardens and Disney, only to find that the Haunted Lighthouse ride was being built as was Mission Space. So we went back in 2004 and did those rides, but then saw that we would have to come back again to catch Expedition Everest and the Mummy! I think no matter when we go, we will always be behind!

I think seaworld is the better one if you have just one day. They have a lot of cool stuff like wild arctic and terrors of the deep and some alright thrill rides. You can make it through the whole park in a day with no problem, And who doesnt love shamu! But if you have a thing for riding a lot of thrill rides islands of adventure might be good for you.

Sea World

You have to see Semore and Clyde. I think they are sea lions (I always confuse them with seals). Any way the show is terrific. Get to the theatre early, sit and relax in the shade, and enjoy the preshow. It is one of our can't miss attractions in Orlando.

Wow. Bias much? I guess most Disney rides are "the sort" that can be found in any amusement park as well then, seeing as they share so much in common. Good thing we can always rely on SeaWorld to be unique and cutting edge!

Now now ladies... i want a clean fight - hand bags at dawn and what not...

- round one -

;)

I jest... honestly go to sea world - universal parks are the kind that you WILL feel gutted if you missed out alot of the rides because those swines shut the park at 6 for example...

Universal is your excuse for next year ;)

Long Live Free Beer

(SEAWORLD)

A gold passport to seaworld and busch gardens runs just over 9 bucks a month, so I make SURE to drink at LEAST that much worth of beer at each every month. Makes me feel better that I'm getting my money's worth. Now... If I only have one day, at 65-ish dollars a ticket, divided by the average price of a beer being 5 dollars....... wow. You'd better start drinking early! Just be sure to wear a different hat each time to slip past that '2 beer max'. :D

*NOTE*
(if you're one that can define the word serious and do on a regular basis, please note that this was a JOKE)

I'd say Universal.

I was having trouble trying to find things to do in Sea World for a full day. I saw EVERYTHING by 4, even went on Kraken and Journey To Atlantis multiple times each.

It'd be a good time to go to Universal, especially if you haven't ridden The Mummy. Plus, their new nighttime show is supposed to be really cool.

Maybe all attractions? I find it impossible to see all the shows by 4... as well as taking time to eat, see Shark Encounter, the Penguin thing, feed the dolphins, stingray bay, and then all of the shows on top of that. Blue Horizons, Pets Ahoy, Believe, Clyde and Seymore, Odyssea, Fusion, Sea Lions Tonight, I'm seeing it very difficult, if not impossible, to see it all (as a first time visitor mind you) by 4PM. Sea world is a good bet for a relaxing and fun day. But if thrills are more your thing, then universal is your best choice.

Obviously I didn't see Sea Lions Tonight before 4PM.. But that was pretty much it.. AND.. AND.. I ate at Sharks Underwater Grill.

Hhmm... it´s a hard decision to make because they are very different. I took the Behind the scenes tour in Seaworld and petted (?) a pengüin - that was the highlight of the day, it was awesome and made our experience very different. Journey to Atlantis is a great ride too, but as others said, if you want to see movies and thrill rides, go to Universal and don´t let others tell you about it. Both parks are fun. :)
Now, if you can´t really decide, maybe you should use that extra day on relaxing... or going to the mall! I know that would probably be my choice! hehehe ;)
