Okay, so I had to look it up to be sure. The both the new version and old version of Mission: Space state that you're there for flight training. The scripts are almost identical, but the new version makes it a little more clear by removing the comment "at NASA and ISTC facilities around the world, future astronauts are learning how to live and work in space" which seems to imply that what you're doing isn't as "real,". The pre-show pretends that simulators you'll be using are real flight training simulators.
The confusion comes from the theatrical dramatic production of the simulation, but it's excusable because they wanted it to be fun.
