Our latest batch of info came scribbled onto a banana peal from a source known only as “The Monkey”. Our Monkey friend claimed that April 2005 has been set as the closing date for Spaceship Earth and when it closes, they will also close the entire left side pathway (Guest Relations side) as well to allow for construction access for all the trucks they’ll need to get in there to gut the giant golf ball’s innards and cart away the debris. The note also claimed that this is also the area where the “launch” would take place.


Is this 'monkey' on crack? There will be no launch. Its not going to be a coaster. Closing in 2005? Is this new?

Well, there was a rumor going around that the new ride would be what Rocket Rods was supposed to be, but with Test Track around the corner, I'm not sure how realistic of an idea that would be--still a possibility, as is any rumor, but we'll just have to wait and see...it does certainly seem Spaceship Earth will be changing drastically in the not-so-distant future, regardless.

Here's what I heard during my visit last week:

The redo of SE is still very much alive, but the timetable is in question. The early 2005 time frame is still the leading contender, as it has been for a while.

As for closing the east side of SE for a "launch", that I know nothing about, other than there will be no coaster in SE, so the launch would have to simply mean the beginning of your trip from outside the sphere.

Well, Grizz's sources (who seem to be having some phenominal accuracy of late) said something to the effect that a SE makeover was indefinetly postponed. So while yes, i assume thats still possible, its as likely me walking into the next room and finding a redhead wanting to do some very unDisneylike things.

I'll take anything that comes from his sources any day of the week over what Screamscape posts....

I too am not believe anything that comes from the Screamscape Monkey.

It could be that they decided to bring it back. It's been a couple weeks... but as soon as I can get back in contact, we'll see! Screamscape isn't that bad, actually. . . I just think their sources are very scattered: some are amazingly more accurate than others.

Yeah, every once in a while, Screamscape nails stuff on the head...I wish there were a way to determine which rumors they release are reliable and which aren't, though.
