Scorpion at La Calva De Tequila (not how it sounds)

Hi all,

I have been listening to a pod cast from WDW Radio (#178) and at the end a caller (Andy from discoverEpcot.com) leaves a message regarding a novel snack available at La Calva De Tequila.

He mentions asking for a "Scorpion shot" and recieving a real scorpion and a shot of tequila, (saying it tastes like chicken!) :slurp: or :hurl:

Can anyone add any credibility to this? Is it on the menu, and has anyone tried one?

My youngest and I are going to have to try it, for that "Fear Factor" experience!

I checked online and it appears that a Scorpion Shot is indeed what you described. There are apparently drinks with this name that have nothing whatsoever to do with a scorpion, but others that do in fact include a scorpion (sometimes live, sometimes not) in the glass. Not sure which of these is served at WDW. I'll check it out when I'm there in a couple of weeks.

I'd be a little concerned about the health issues with eating a scorpion. But it's got to be safe because it's Disney, right? Right?! :lookaroun

It would have the sting removed.

You can buy them at a number of places (I dont know about WDW though). It is pretty common to find them in lollipops.

Bugs tend to taste like whatever they have been recently eating.

There is a brand of Mezcal called Scopion (Tequila is Mezcal, but not all Mezcal is Tequila) that has a scorpion in it.

maybe they carry that in Epcot ?

I found this on www.discoverepcot.com. I'm quoting Andy himself.

"To the right I am eating a scorpion. I took the last pour of tequila in the new Tequila Lounge in Mexico and PePe the bar tender told me it was 5 years bad luck not to eat the worm/scorpion in the bottom of the bottle. I say use bigger scorpions next time."

It has a photo of him about to eat the offending bug so I guess it's a genuine. :slurp:
