Scored a Contemporary Tower Room Theme Park View Room

We (my DH and I) are going to WDW for the January Marathon, two of our grown children are running in the Marathon.

We had reserved Port Orleans FQ but I had been checking everyday to see what was available. All of the lower priced rooms were sold out and the Contemporary had been sold out for a long time. Well, yesterday morning I checked and a Theme Park View Room was available with the Magic discount! I reserved it! Now, we are holding two reservations so I will need to call today and cancel one.

A little about us, we are in our sixties and my DH doesn't need a wheelchair but he tires out really easily so that is why I wanted something close in and easy to get to the early morning Marathons. We will be attending the Fri. & Sat. morning Marathons (up at 4:00 a.m.). Also, I can't see him staying in the parks over 3-4 hours at a time so going back to rest at the hotel sounds great! Also, we can view fireworks every night from our balcony. So .... as you can tell, I think we are going to chose the Contemporary even though it is quite a bit more!!

I would appreciate thoughts from everyone. We have stayed at the Contemporary before (maybe 3-4 times) but never in a theme park view room.

It really depends on how comfortable you are with the cost. We've been fortunate to stay at CR with a park view many times. There really is nothing else like it on property. In the morning you can hear the ferry and train whistles as the park comes to life. Yes, you can hear the buses too, but it's not that big a deal. You can see the Polynesian, GF, MK and the monorails all at the same time. We've never been there for the marathon, so I can't say how convenient is would be to watch the race. If you've never stayed in the CR, I would say it's something you should do at least once, but be careful, it's addicting.

I personally have never stayed in a theme park view room, but from what I can imagine and just from what @rob0519 says, it sounds incredible!!!
If you can afford it, I'd say absolutely do it. You only live once and it sounds like it would make a special trip even more special. Also it sounds like it would be nice and convenient, period, but especially for your husband.

Thanks for your opinion. We have stayed at the Contemporary several times but never with a theme park view.

All the marathons start at Epcot so we would catch the monorail to Epcot early then scoot over to the MK for a reserved seat at the castle and then back to Epcot for the finish line. Using the monorail system instead of the buses would be a big plus.

I called them this morning and cancelled the POFQ. So .... it's a done deal.

@MissViv.....You will not be sorry. Since you have stayed at the CR resort many times, you are well aware of it's convenience to the MK and the rest of the monorail resorts and restaurants. We stayed at the CR (my favorite) 5 times but only one time for a MK view. I loved being able to enjoy the evening fireworks from our balcony. I just love the hustle and bustle of the CR and I love getting off the monorail at the end of the day in the parks and being "home". We are DVC members and our home report is the Poly , but I will always consider the CR my home since it was the first place we stayed on our first visit in 1987. Have a Magical Trip! :cat:
