Scooter/ECV Question

I did notice at the bus stops at the resort there is a very specific ECV size restriction to board buses. Seemed there was an issue similar to the tank strollers, they were not fitting.

I was going to mention that. When a friend and I looked into renting one for his mother from an Orlando area company (I forget which company), the company's site had a few models that specifically came with a warning that they were too large to fit on the Disney buses.

And as another poster mentioned, as long as the scooter is within ADA size guidelines, they'll have no problem. (Though I have no idea what those measurements are)

They should also take a close look at the various access icons on the guidemaps, figure out what they mean (may stay in scooter, scooter must transfer to a wheelchair, must be able to transfer, etc) and keep an eye out for them on the maps.

Is this new? Did they change the buses?
Do you think the "approved" companies would make sure you had the correct size?
Just curious as to whether we need to put some extra thought into what kind we rent....

Disney even has like five or six "approved" outside ECV vendors that are allowed to drop off and pick up rental scooters at your hotel bell desk. The only thing I can think of that is limited access as far as ECV is the hotel drop off thing, and you also have to have rented from one of those "approved" vendors for the rental company to come into the park to you to do a repair or exchange of the ECV, otherwise you have to meet them outside the park gates to get your ECV repair or exchange. They have to let them in or it would go against the Americans with disabilities act.

I do believe this is most likely what the person on the Disney "chat" was referring to. As people have said, if its a legit ADA device, and fits within the sizing posted, then it should be allowed.

@The Mom this thread can probably be locked before it gets out of hand. My boss is going to call Disney to confirm/deny the ECV rule.

Why do you think it will be locked? I have not seen anything other then helpful suggestions and questions stemming from confusing information.

You can and should call Disney for verification, but the quality of response will be directly linked to the knowledge of the person answering the phone. Most of the time it will be alright, however, since a number of us have recounted actual experiences and not hear say... I think I would go with that.
