Scooter/Disability Question

Hello All,

A good friend of mine is planning a trip early next year. He has a prosthetic leg and has not been to WDW in a few years.

I told him I would reach out to all the good people here and inquire what the procedure is for renting scooters, are there head of the line privileges, limitations on ride, etc.

Any information you can provide would be most welcome.

Thank you all in advance BTW, 25 days and counting.

You can rent ECVs (Electric conveyance vehicles) inside the parks or from external vendors. Inside the parks they are located past the turnstiles (admission point). Magic Kingdom is in the middle under the train station, Animal Kingdom is to the right of the turnstiles as is Hollywood Studios, while Epcot is to the left past the fountains.

Most of the rides have queues that are accessible for scooters, if not there will be an alternate entrance (which may entail a bit of a wait.

There is no "head of the line" privilege for ECVs , they must be at the head of the party in line so the cast members can direct them appropriately. For ECVs you will need to transfer to the ride vehicles.

For Disney Transportation you will need to aim for the accessible access points. Busses have a limitation of 2 for most and the Skyliner has a separate boarding area.

Please be aware that other guests dont pay attention and will dart in front of you and even stop no matter how rude it may be.

With a prosthetic leg, there are some attractions which have ride cars that are difficult to enter and exit so your friend may have a bit of a struggle to manage on some rides. The CM's will pause the progress of the ride cars to enable him to enter and exit if needed. He can view what the guests ahead of him are doing to enter and exit so he has an idea of what he will encounter. Telling the CM loading if he needs time so he wont feel rushed and make a mis step will help.

Please advise your friend that the ECV’s you rent from Disney are VERY big and “clunky”…kinda like driving a ‘72 Eldorado around the parks, lol ALSO, the ECV has to be left in the park…your friend will still have to walk to/from their resort to the park (which is a LONG walk)…they should consider renting one from Scooter Bug, the approved ECV off site rental company…they will drop off/pick up the ECV at their resort and they are MUCH EASIER to drive in the parks, PLUS they can use it in their resort…if they’ve never used one, PLEASE insist than they spend 15-20 minutes to drive it around the resort BEFORE venturing into the parks so they learn the feel of it…it will make a WORLD of difference and also, it will be much cheaper than renting one daily in the parks, plus they’re on a first come, first served basis…I hope they have an awesome time!!

There are external vendors for ECVs other than Scooterbug, but if you're staying at a Disney property, you have to coordinate a face to face meeting for delivery and pickup. Scooterbug is allowed to deliver without that and bell services will manage the delivery and pickup.

That’s why I recommended them…before I bought my own, we used to use Buena Vista scooters….they were great…

I bought my own about 4 years ago…I did my homework, it’s really perfect for Disney, with a 17 mile range on a charge…airlines fly it down free of charge…the best 1400.00 I’ve ever spent…
