First day in WDW we'll be going for a late lunch in DHS. Three of us, 2 adults and our 11 year old daughter. Which would be the most fun for her--- Sci-Fi or 50's? We are looking for Disney magic and atmosphere, and figure the food will be more or less equal. Your thoughts please?

I personally would pick 50's PTC... it is a lot more interactive. I just LOVE the atmosphere there. Sci Fi is great too, but in my opinion, 50's wins hands down

that is a REALLY great question, both restaurants have AMAZING food, 50's Prime time Diner has your average american food, with a little more Disney "magic" that Sci Fi. But Sci Fi Diner is in my opinion the best at The Studios. It does have a tad Disney magic to it, they have a wider selection of food, the tables are cars and you are at a drive in movie "atmosphere", the service is GREAT and the food is even better. I would reccomend you go there, especially with a 11 year old, she will love it there. And I reccomend the Reuben Sandwich at Sci Fi, its to die for.

I have been to both twice. I would choose 50's PTC andy day of the week. I had lousy food each time at Sci-Fi.

I tried both this summer. For your 11 year old I would think she would like Sci-Fi better. You sit in tables that look like old cars just like you are at a drive in theater and watch old sci-fi flicks on the movie screen. The food was fabulous. We had the ribs and oh my you must try the onion rings! 50 PTC was nice it is themed like a 50's kitchen would be and the waiters act like your mom. Dont put your elbows on the table and eat your vegetables, that kinda thing. The design is really nice but I prefer Sci-Fi which ever you choose I am sure it will be great let us know which one and how it went.

I don't enjoy the food at either place... So for me, if I had to go to either restaurant, it would be for the atmosphere and experience. With that in mind, I'd pick Scif-Fi.

But with an 11-year-old, why not just ask her? Which entertainment/experience would she enjoy more?

I think the food is much better at 50's, but I enjoy eating at Sci-Fi for the atmosphere. They recently added a salad at Sci-Fi that is very good.

I think an 11-yr old might be a bit embarassed by the attention dished out by the servers at 50s, whereas eating in cars is always cool. Enjoy!

50's Prime Time. The food is better and where as they both have plenty of atmosphere 50's prime time has much more interaction with the cast.

I have been to both...
I would choose 50's Prime Time over Sci-fi any day! Went to Sci-fi twice, and was disappointed both times. I think 50's has better food, better atmosphere, and better CM interaction.

I really love 50's PTC. Yummy, yummy s'mores!!!! :slurp:

The food is pretty good at both restaurants. 50s is one of those places that is more fun when there are more people in your party or if you're celebrating something...just like Whispering Canyon. There were 4 adults in my party when we went to 50s last month and had a great time, the food was pretty decent, but for the most part, its an atmosphere that adults can only really appreciate. Don't get me wrong, your daughter will probably have fun because it is a very interactive experience, but I think she'll be more interested at Sci Fi. She'll love getting to sit in the car and having the giant movie screen infront of you. The whole restaurant is decorated to look like you're outside, and the staff there LOVE looking for hidden mickeys with you guys.

We did both restaurants on our trip last month. Loved them both, but Sci Fi is my favorite of the two. I'll be returning to Sci Fi every trip...I doubt I'll be doing 50s again... unless I can finally convince my parents to come to WDW with us again...

I think the atmosphere is actually cooler at the Sci Fi...
But I have to be honest...the food was HORRENDOUS.

So although Sci Fi is got a little cooler atmosphere, when you're dropping
all that coin at a restaraunt...I think good food wins everytime.

Have done both several times...have 3 kids in same age group as yourself. We LOVE Sci-Fi, including their food!! Their spinach & artichoke dip is awesome, we've never had a bad meal there, and the service is always great. Best themed restaurant in all of Disney in our opinion. Fifties is great also, but depending on your server can be disappointing...plus, we don't like the menu as well as Sci-Fi. I don't really think you could go wrong with either one...just decide whether you want a quieter environment - Sci-Fi, or something a little more raucous - 50's....Have fun whichever you choose :slurp:

Personally I would choose the 50's. I too have experienced poor food and service at SciFi (although it has been 2 years since I have been there). I've never had a bad time or anything other than great food at the 50's even dining alone.

Both have an equally great atmosphere, but very different. The question is what would your family like the best? Do you like a somewhat rowdy atmosphere and being part of the show? If so the 50's would be perfect. Or maybe you would like to feel like you are dining outside or your daughter has never experienced a drive in movie. If so then SciFi would be great.

In the end I choose 50's because of the food and service. But I will probably try SciFi again in the near future. Restaurant chefs, managers, staff and menus change so I expect that I could have a great time there like I did years ago.

Good luck. I don't think you will be disappointed with either restaurant.

We love the Sci-Fi. I can't comment too much on the food since we only ever order burgers and shakes--which are great by the way. We do this to stick to the drive-in type event which most kids have never experienced. We've been to the 50s before but the constant interaction was more of an annoyance to us than fun. We eat at Sci-Fi atleast once every trip. Everyone is different so you'll enjoy where you pick either way.
