Sci-Fi - No Reservations?

We are going on a trip in October (I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record saying that) and we had a reservation at Sci Fi Dine In Theater that we wanted to switch for another night. We've had no trouble getting a reservation on each day of our trip or even switching reservations around, but we couldn't find another reservation for Sci Fi on any other day of our trip at any time, lunch or dinner... even our original reservation was unavailable seconds after we deleted it! Is there something going on with that restaurant or did it just fill up that fast?

We made a reservation for September after our 180 mark as we didn't originally know we wanted to eat there this year, and we could only get a 4:30ish time, which is a little earlier than I'd like to eat, especially at HS with the shows often running until then. I've checked back every once in a while to see if I could move it, but there was nothing. Unfortunately, it's a popular place and may be that filled up. But of course, keep checking, especially closer to your date as people may cancel. Also, it wouldn't hurt to call Disney dining directly to see what's going on. Good luck!

It can fill that fast. Now you are only about 4 months out so it can get difficult. Just keep trying and something should open up eventually so you can change it. But do note in October HS closes earlier so sometimes the later reservations are not all that late and go first before the earlier ones. We usually can't get later than 4-5:30 in the fall unless it's an EMH night we have gotten later at the HS restaurants. So this is pretty typical for most HS restaurants that time of year. :)

I am having the same issue with 50s prime time in November! I have a 4:40 dinner reservation, and I wanted something just a wee bit later.. No such luck! I was able to move my lunch at mama melrose for the fantasmic package to 11:45, I'm just so afraid we won't be hungry at 4:40!

Our main problem with the reservation we had at Sci Fi was that it was at 4:50 (that's 3:50 "our time")!! We haven't had issues with any other restaurants, even the hard to get reservations like Be Our Guest! I guess this place really is popular! Either way, it won't ruin our trip. Maybe we can sneak in for lunch one day!

We like to eat at both of those each trip so we usually do them on different days due to this. I don't know if it's possible for you to do that, but most likely you will not be hungry at 4-5 hours later with a big meal like that. Also do know you don't want to be too close to Fantasmic which is usually around 7:30pm in the fall. So maybe consider going back another day to do 50's if you can. The times if anything comes up won't be much later than what you have and like I mentioned you don't want it getting closer to Fantasmic show time. They don't always take you right away for your reservation time either. MM we usually always have to wait at least 30min (if not more) for our table so that will possibly push your lunch later too and could affect dinner as well. All these are things to consider. We thankfully have more flexibility because we go longer and just go different days for our faves at HS. Last trip we did MM, 50's and Sci Fi all on different days. Year prior we did MM, 50's and HBD.
Sorry to ramble but just some things to comsider. :)

Lol! Never a bad problem to have! Usually hours don't get updated again until about a month out or so. So you may have a while to see more finalized hours. But historically if not Thanksgiving week HS closes at 7-8pm with only one showing of a Fantasmic etc. On EMH nights HS will stay open until 9-10pm with still just one showing if Fantasmic around the regular hours closing time. Thanksgiving week hours can be later with 2 showings of Fantasmic etc. :)

Lol! No problem I hope my info can help you in some way. I go this time often so just going by what has worked best for us. I too have made the 2 TS restaurants 4-5 hours apart mistake and try to help others not do the same if possible but I know sometimes there is no getting around it if your trip is shorter or only one day in a park etc to get to the places you love. Hope it all works out for you and that y'all have an awesome trip! :D

Try the Touringplans.com reservation finder app. I've changed three of my reservations to ideal times using this (still waiting on one). It constantly searches for you and then when someone cancels it sends you a link to follow to book it. It's $13 or so for a membership but sooo worth it.

Thank you! Is 50s prime time really filling?? I know mamas was and expect to have a big lunch, but don't know what to expect from 50s. It is five hours apart so I'm trying to think about real life and how often I eat... Lol... What a dilemma to have too many TS credits! I just don't want to rush things because with my 6 Disney days I wanna experience night at all four parks, then I have Christmas party tickets for the fifth day, and a coveted nighttime ADR at California Grill my sixth and last Disney night. Maybe I should research breakfast options in the parks.. I will never get this trip set! :)

Yes 50's is just as filling. Me and the hubby always leave full as with most WDW restaurants and we are big eaters. Yes it is 5 hours apart but if you have to wait for your table and such you could end up with less time inbetween. Once one of the HS restaurants took us over 2 hours from getting seated and getting all our food etc and leaving. So you just never know. You may be hungry again by the 2nd one but maybe not hungry enough for a large meal. But I don't know your eating habits so that's hard to say. Haha!
You will be fine just don't over think anything and I often also am switching stuff around often up until our trips. So you're not alone. Lol :p

I should just message you my plans and have you tell me what to do! LOL.. I am so confused! Usually my ADRS and made in my head a year out, and this trip I just keep changing everything around. It's hard with 9 meals into 6 days.. Thank you again for all your input, I appreciate it so much! :)

Haha! But then I would have to charge you. Hehe J/J!! I actually do want to eventually maybe become a Disney travel agent. That would be a dream. I would get Disney or pay me! Haha.
Anywho you will be fine and it will all work out I promise! May take a lot of tweaking but it will be worth it in the end. But I totally understand what you're going through. Some trips i barely mess with mine once I decide and others like I mentioned I'm costantly messing with them. Lol ;)

You might actually have some luck if you just try to get walk-up seating.
There are picnic tables at the back of the restaurant behind the "cars" that are actually noticeably more comfortable and cleaner than the "car" seats, and the view is actually more impressive since you can look all around you.
As of last summer, at least, these were almost exclusively filled from walk-up guests, and there wasn't that much of a wait from what I could tell.

If that's a wash, you'll be next to the ABC Commissary, which has very comparable food In fact, they share a common kitchen, if I'm not mistaken.
