Just booked this as we have never been before but it warned we might not be sat at a table together, might be a problem with 2 young children! I guess it's just a disclaimer, but has anyone experienced this? Also the restaurant gets mixed reviews, so is it still worth a try as we haven't been before?

We went back in 2010 and had mixed feelings. We loved the atmosphere inside but the food was so so for the price. Also this might sound dumb but we were seated in a car which meant it was two people then another two behind them, then the last two of out party. There was no way to have conversation and you basically could only talk to the person nest to you. We didn't get told we might be seated separately but we did this past year at crystal palace and as soon as we got there we were seated all together. How many people are in your party? I think the max a car can fit is 6. Maybe more if the kids are little

Nice thorough review. The atmosphere can't be beat and the food is average but pricey. There used to be (at least in 2010) several tables with movable chairs...don't know if they still have them. It is much more fun to sit in the cars, if your party is 6 or less.
Fun place to relax!!

There are the 4 of us, 2 adults 2 kids. We have a "free" dining plan so thought we should try out a few of the well known places that we might have been put off by price/ quality issues.

Might I suggest San Angel in Mexico as well? This is another of the "well known places that we might have been put off by price/ quality issues" that might be the greatest of the great atmospheres! The food is IMO so-so. Can't beat the backdrop. Kids will love the joint...

Was there in 8/11 with my then 8 year old. It was great. Food was solid, but not spectacular. Service was ok, but it is the ambiance that sells it. Would most certainly go again

I really enjoyed San Angel until our last trip. The service was the worst we have ever had at WDW. Food and ambiance are always top notch, but to have to sit for 2.5 total hours for a meal was too much for us. 45-60 minutes of that was waiting for our waitress to return with our card.

We usually hit the joint each trip, but currently do not have a ressie for this December. I have never been impressed with the food, but DDs love it. The service is a bit slow, but the joint is so cool it is hard to pass up. I would give the food and service a 7.5-8 out of 10. Not lousey by any measure...

We tried the Sci-Fi for the 1st time in Sept and we loved it, we both ad the Picnic Burger and fries and had no complaints, if I was to find a negative i would say it was quite dark but it wasn't a problem. We're returning next Sept!!

You are so right!! FYI, they will let you order the burger at dinner...
My rule for Sci-Fi is only lunch, never dinner. I have never had a bad sandwich or burger there. But dinner reviews are not always good.
They actually don't have separate lunch and dinner menus anymore. Here's the new combined menu: http://www.wdwmagic.com/dining/sci-...12-sci-fi-dine-in-theater-restaurant-menu.htm

To the OP, the cars are set up in 3-4 rows of 2 seats, that's probably why it says you may not sit together. You would be right in front or behind each other. There are also picnic tables in the back, maybe you could request one of those?

I thought it was an all day menu as well. Disney's dining page now shows them seperate.

Wonder which is correct?

I haven't been to Sci-Fi in many years and certainly never with an infant. I remember really liking it as a child. My husband would love to go, but I wasn't sure how high-chairs work there. Can you sit in the cars with a high-chair pulled up?

Yes, I've seen car tables with high chairs. I would request the high chair on your reservation so they can seat you properly.
