Sci Fi and Fantasmic or Hoop de Do?

Cost is not a consideration here, since we are on the deluxe dining plan, and I am actually having trouble trying to figure out how to use all of the meals....

So, if money wasn't a consideration, how would you rather spend an evening with 7 and 10-year-old daughters......eating at sci fi and then going to Fantasmic or going to the Hoop de Do Revue?

I love both Sci-Fi and Fantasmic! so they get my vote. I saw Hoop Dee Doo many years ago as a teenager and thought it was corny but it has a loyal following so I might think differently now. I thought about booking it for our last trip in February (free dining) but went with the Luau instead (show-great, food-very dissapointing.) We definitly did Sci-Fi and Fantasmic! though a different night.

it does depend on your trip schedule sa well. SciFi with Fantasmic if timing is an issue and you want to spend more time at the parks. With a 7 & 10 year old I would go that way as well.

Hoop Dee Doo is great but does require traveling over to the campground area. The show was supposed to close last fall for a revamp but the plans changed and it has remained open with the same show.

If character interaction and BBQ is what you are after don't overlook Mickey's Backyard BBQ. Seriously we overlooked it for years and tried it this last trip. I cannot speak highly enough about it. We all had a great time. It's behind the Hoop Dee Doo Review - outside covered pavilion next to what used to be river country. Same food as HDDR except now buffet style, plus unlimited Mickey Icecream bars, popsicles, and for the adults beer and wine are included. Characters - Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale & Goofy.

while i recommend that everyone see Fantasmic- it involves standing in line longer than the show lasts. if you do the fantasmic package, you only have to be there 30 min before the show and sit on hard metal benches waiting. but it is still only a 25 minute show. don't get me wrong, i can't conceive of a trip without it. we do it every visit.
BUT, if i HAD to choose between the two and i had two kids your ages, i would do hoop de doo. it is a 2+ hour long event, no standing in line, comfortable seating, good food and a show that your kids will remember their whole lives. really- it's that good and that corny- but kids eat it up! (we adults who are kids at heart, too!).

Sci-Fi food is kinda yucky, but the theming is great, and Fantasmic is my favorite show! I wasn't impressed with Hoop-dee doo. We were upstairs, so IDK if that made it less of an experience. I'm not big on BBQ and I thought the chicken was bland- it's free beer, but not what I consider beer (Bud products- surprise!) So I would have to agree with @figmentfan423 and suggest Brown Derby/Fantasmic :)

Sci-Fi is an interesting experience (aside from food), but Fantasmic is the worst night show in Orlando. I have never understood why people like it.

I would do the Hoop Dee Doo, which has better food and is far more entertaining than Fantasmic. Hoop Dee Doo is really a lot of fun.

IMO, you cannot even compare the two, apples & oranges (or dole whips & citrus swirls). Hoop de (as my family calls it) is a true Disney show experience, good show and good food. With that being said, transportation to the venue and check in is awful; plan ahead for this process.

Sci-Fi's food is just OK; you are going for the atmosphere. They tend to rush you thru the meal and this place is ALWAYS cold inside (and I am ALWAYS warm). Fantasmic is 'must do' for my family, usually multiple times during our stay. If you happen to be travelling to the 'World during the summer months or holiday season, they will put on the show twice. The second show is usually half empty and you can walk right in 15 mins before show time.

Hoop De Doo is awesome. Such a funny show. The food is pretty good too. Fantasmic is one of my favorite things about Disney and Sci Fi is decent. We're eating there this month (cousins picked it - my pick was 50s Prime Time Cafe) and we have eaten there before with no complaints.

HDD does take awhile to get to but if you plan it on a day you're at MK, you can take the boat right over to FW and back. We went on a day we spent away from the parks and drove to MK, took the monorail to the entrance and then the ferry to FW and then went to MK after for the evening.

With Fantasmic though, sometimes you do have to wait in line for it. We usually wait til the line has already gone up into the theater before we go up. Sure we don't get the best seating, but that's fine with us since all seats are pretty good.

It all depends what you think your kids would like better! :)

I am with Figgy, Hollywood Brown Derby and Fantasmic especially if money is no option. Yet that is not the question. Both are loud. I really think it depends on how many days you are there. If you are there less than a week I would do HS. If you have more time than that do the review or both:D
