Our tour told us they do not pipe smells onto Main Street anymore. Our tour guide told us that they did originally, but that they had to stop because piping out fake bakery smell was illegal, but now they simply have fans that blow the real smell out.:slurp:

I guess the answer this question depends on who you ask :animwink:

Oh, c'mon. How would piping out a "fake bakery smell" be "illegal?"

Artificial smells to entice people to buy something are not illegal. Neither is mixing in types of sounds. (Islands of Adventure pipes in a Christmas remix to it's BGM in the main entrance shops every 15-20 minutes. This causes people to subliminally want to buy merchandise)

Subliminal VISUAL's are illegal. They were once done at drive in's, movie theatres, & TV adds to cause the audience to buy soda/popcorn or said advertisement.

A little off topic....but I remember years ago they would put pink florescent bulbs in the meat and deli departments of grocery stores to make the meat look pink and fresher. I believe that is illegal now also.

Last time we were there, I circled the Flying Carpets ride trying to find where the tropical flower smell was coming from. I couldn't find any blooming flowers or bushes. Loved the smell...didn't appreciate getting spit on by the camels while I was sniffing the air, tho'...:ROFLOL:(Yes, my family pretended like they didn't know me.)

Smellitzers in-use in WDW (that I know of):

-Main Street Bakery: cookies (ice cream shop is right next door, so it may be a two-shops-with-one-smellitzer situation)
-Main Street Confectionary: smell of some type of candy, I know this changes to peppermint/candy cane in the holiday season
-Stitch's Great Escape: chili dog
-Philharmagic: apple pie
-Spaceship Earth: burning Rome
-Soarin': various smells including pine and orange
-Journey Into Imagination with Figment: skunk
-Test Track: corrosion robots
-Universe of Energy: I *believe* they have a "primordial" smell in the diorama
-Villains in Vogue shop at the Studios: candy apple smell outside the Old Hag's window
-It's Tough to Be a Bug: stinkbug
-Kali River Rapids: jasmine in the mist of the lift hill

Horizons used to have the "Loranges" smell.
Tower of Terror had one installed during its most recent changeover to the random patterns, but after the burning-wires smell freaked out some early-morning Guests when it was left on after overnight testing, it was removed.

I *think* that's it... Did I miss any?

-Rob

That may have freaked me out a little too!
