Boston did exactly what they were supposed to do--win at home. Face it, neither one of them is exactly tearing it up right now. But, like you said, we've got a LONG way to go.
Just to put it into perspective: the teams are all nearing the 10-game mark right now. Over a 162-game schedule, 10 games is about the same as 1 NFL game. So at this point last football season, the Patriots were 0-1 and looked absolutely terrible. And we all know how that story ended...

Bosox fans never stop believing

Boston – They keep coming.
Blindly.
Stubbornly.
Loyally.
"Keep the faith," the billboard ad outside Fenway Park read, and that's exactly what Red Sox fans have done for the past 86 years.
It's all they know.
And every once in a while it's rewarded.
Such as last night.
This was the dream opening for the Sox, a feast of fans' dreams that took out the most hated Yankees.
The Red Sox struck the first blow with a 6-2 win that could be improved only if news breaks that Aaron Boone and Bucky Dent sprained their ankles at home.
Derek Jeter, the old symbol of Yankee evil, made an error.
Alex Rodriguez, the new one, threw a cup in disgust.
This is what Sox fans have to hold on to after nearly a century of suffering. The little moments.
So they brought out their best boos and celebrated watching Rodriguez and Jeter look more like frustrated Sox fans than Yankees villians.
"It was one of their better performances," Jeter said of the Boston fans' venom.
Little moments.
The Sox don't get Rodriguez, but they do get to delight in his frustration after getting thrown out at third on a hit-and-run. They get to see him throw a cup in anger and disgust, looking rather un-Yankee-like.
They get to watch him tell TV cameras he was "(ticked) off about a lot of things."
Tim Wakefield doesn't win his third game of last year's American League Championship Series, but he does win his first of the season against the Yankees.
The Red Sox fans came to see it all, cheering as hard as they had cried last October, trying desperately to make spring feel like fall.
There's something admirable here, if not paranoid, stubborn and, as Yankees fan Ron Cecchini Sr. said "psycho."
They never stop coming.
So they prepared to take another crack last night and laughed at the thought it was too early to begin this masochistic ritual again.
"Too early?" Sox fan Paul Henry said. "I wish it had started on Opening Day."
The Yankees were back and that left plenty of room for envy and hate.
And hope.
"THIS IS THE YEAR," a stubborn and, perhaps, intoxicated fan screamed as a taunt to a Yankee fan.
The new season of showdowns began where the old one ended, a knuckler spinning out of Wakefield's hand and toward a Yankee.
No home run this time.
New season. New chances. Old hate.
Rodriguez got to join his pal Jeter as the Sox fans' new object of hate.
"I think the overall boos were louder for him," Jeter said of Rodriguez. "Individually, they were probably focused more toward me."
No matter. They could enjoy both players' ineptitude for an evening.
The press box was packed as if it was the postseason. Joe Buck and Tim McCarver announced the game across the country as they had for Game 7 last year.
But as much as Boston wanted this to be a big moment, they'd have to settle for a small victory for now.
"There's more on the line in October," Jeter said when asked if it was the same atmosphere as last fall. "I mean, the fans are always animated, but no matter how you look at it, it's still April."

Not only is it still April, but there are still three games to go in this set. The media kill me sometimes. If the Yankees end up taking 3 out of 4 (hypothetically), then how silly does that column look?

:lol: It wasn't self imposed. I had to promise wsapooh not to cause any problems this year. Guess I get a little passionate at times about the Yankees (especially when I argue with Brian.)
I'm trying to "tone it down" a bit.

Will you bail me out when Laurie jumps on my case? Well Brian & I did share a few heated IMs, but we called a truce near series time. My schedule for today: Yanks at 1pm, Rays at 6pm, Oakland at 10pm...gotta love MLB Extra Innings. (except last night...3 games and CSI all at the same time.
)I'm still not impressed with the Yanks this season. I know we have alot of new people and they need time to mesh, but the games I've seen have been sloppy. **sighs** Shades of the '70s...
