Saving pictures problem.

When ever i try to save a picture onto my computer, it will only allow me to save it as a bitmap, even if the picture was not originally in that format. (On the pulldown menu it only gives bitmap as an option.)

If i want to have it in any other format, i have to open it in a photo editing program and save it as something else.

Can anybody help me?

does the software have a 'save as...' option? You can usually change they image type from there.

No, if, for example, i was trying to save your avatar to my computer, when i right click and go to 'save picture as', the only option it gives me to save the image as, is a bitmap, whether the image was a bitmap to start with or not.

You see?

Cheers for your help anyway CP.

the PhotoImpression manual says...
*Save As - allows you to save the file in a new location, with a new name, and even a new file type.

Hahahaha...ONE file type that is! If you interested you can get a copy of gimp (free) and convert you images for sure whether it be a .bmp, .jpb, .gif, .tiff or whatever other format is out there

To make sure I understand this, you are having this problem with your web browser when you try to save pictures off the web? What type (i.e. Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer) are you using and what version? If you don’t know the version, you should be able to go up to help on the menu bar and click on “About (insert browser name here) to get that information.

… And another thing, is it keeping the original name of the file or is it coming up as “Untitled”? For instance, if the picture was called “ CinderellaCastle.jpg” is it coming up as “CinderellaCastle.bmp”, “ConderellaCastle” or just “Untitled” when you go to save it?

Yeah, thats my problem!

I normally use the AOL browser (6.0), but it does the same on IE (6.0 on XP).

The file name comes up as untitled.

Cheers.

Do you still have this problem?

Tenchu...have you checked to see what program opens your jpegs or gifs or bmps.....

go to start...go to the control panel, go to folders options and open up 'file types'...scroll down to find jpeg and click on it....see what program is listed for jpeg or gifs...I use "windows pictures and fax V" that came with XP....

sounds to me like a program is acting as your default viewer. You should try disabling your image editor or at least removing it as your default editor.

When I click on your avatar and 'save as'...I get a name of "12356" as the title name and file type is jpeg.

Yep, its still doing it!

I went into the folder options and the pictures and fax viewer is listed for jpegs.

I figured it was a problem like that as well, but i cant find anywhere to change that option. Where would i disable my image editor? I don't have to uninstall or anything?

When i click on my avatar, it comes up untitled as a bitmap. (even though i uploaded it as a jpeg onto the site.)

Cheers Tramp.

Geeeez....I figured you probably already have done the most obvious things...

When you save images as BMP, which folder are they saved to?
If the folder is associated with a particular program, that might help ya track down the problem. Any photo or picture I save is saved in the "My pictures" folder.
I can feel your frustration...when did this start happening?...did u recently install a new program....have you tried a "system restore" back to a checkpoint before this began?
One last thing...have you tried to "restore defaults" under the advanced section of IE tools internet options?
I'm just throwing things out hoping I'll hit on something for ya.

If you go to the control panel, add/remove programs, can't you remove your image editor there?

Yep, I'm saving everything into 'My Pictures' as well.

I think it has got something to do with the image editor i'm using, but i don't want to remove it, because i do actually use it! I installed that a few months ago, so I'm sick of having all these bitmaps saved!

I've looked in every option list i can find, but I've not had any luck!

It's just awkward more than anything, but i will persevere!

Cheers for the help anyway Tramp!

Ok, there are several things that can cause this. Here are two possible solutions. Please tell me if they do or don't fix it so we can go from there if need be.

1. Try clearing out your temporary internet files folder. I'm at work on a mac so I can't tell you how to get to this option right off the top of my head but I think it's on something under tools (Options> general tab> settings - I think ).. Anyway, if it fills up, it can cause the problem you are having.

2. If #1 doesn't work, see if "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" has a check mark in it. If so, take the check mark out, restart save the setting and restart internet explorer and try again...

As for the AOL browser, unless something has changed (which I don't think it has) it is just a shell over internet explorer which means that the problem is in internet explorer...

Don't be jealous old trampy boy! You were the most attentive after all. ;)

In all seriousness, I was at one time a tech support operator for a national ISP so I know a thing or two about some problems that deal specifically with Internet Explorer.

Also, it is worth pointing out that you were more vigilant in helping than I was. :)

That's right, you certainly don't want the Tramp family knowing where you've been, do you? :goodnevil
