Saving every dollar, or at least trying...

Well after all the family trips we should have this down to a science, but I just want to make sure I am not forgetting some money savers. Here's the story:

My family is moving to FL (lucky them), and we want to visit them after they settle in. They are moving to Ft. Mayers, so its not like we can stay with them and visit WDW. We know we want to stay at POR and use the new discount code to save some money. We know to eat the "fancy, high priced" meal at lunch and a small something for dinner. Also, less goodies to bring home, the more we save. We are also skipping the rental car and using Mears Motor Shuttle, as in years past. Also, I can't forget the re-fillable mugs (save a bunch for a Soda-lover like myself!).

So am I forgetting anything major?

P.S.-I am not a fan of the ref. rental, because for $10 a night, I can get something in the food court.

Thanks.

The way I see it, these are the major costs. If you can knock anything (or alot) off of these you are doing well :

Accomodations - discount code
Major Meals B/L/D - cheaper restaurants, AP, Disney Club Disc.
Tix - buy ahead of time, Park Hoppers
Transportation - driving instead of flying
Snacks - bring along a backpack, refill water bottles
Toys/Gifts - buy them ahead of time & take with you :)
Sundries - everything that you can buy ahead of time, take it with you
Parking - take the buses (no rental car)
Ice Cream - sorry, no substitute!

Looks like you've got the major bases covered!

Oh yeah I also forgot, I have free air fare, because Spirit Air bumped us off our last flight.
We also have our "Disney Bags" that are our luggage that already have the WDW sundries packed.
And the tickets come with the package.

SO I guess all I forgot was the meal discounts.

DOes anyone know the meal/gifts/other discounts are with the DIsney Visa and the deal with the 6 Months no interest blah blah blah on DIsney Vacations?

I can see the "it saves money" point of view - but I can't understand why you would take them with you only to bring them back again - they take up valuable space.
Or, perhaps the gifts are for the family moving down to Florida ?? - just not made it so clear.

If you have kids (which I don't) that constantly see toys in the park and want something new everyday, it can save you ALOT of money by buying some toys ahead of time and giving them to your kid at the end of the day. This is of course if you have the space to pack them and take em with you.

Just another way to save some cashola that you can put towards something else

save your pennies and quarters for the squishing! but also we told the kids ahead of time "one thing from each park" not per day. we were there 10 days and that would have been way out of hand. Of course we did do more than one thing per child but it was "extras" toward the end of our trip. we didn't have any fits either because the kids knew before hand what to expect!

For us Mears wasn't the cheapest way to get to Disney from the airport yourride was. Depending on how many people you have a Town Car or Van could be cheaper than Mears.

I find telling them that they cant have everything they see is an even better way of saving money.

Today’s pandered child is tomorrows spoilt brat.

Dont tip that'll save a fortune

We told our 2 girls that I would buy them each a shirt or something of that nature from each park we went to. They had each saved $180( thanks to the grandparents:lol: ) of their own spending money which was theirs to do whatever they wanted with. I ended up buying their Mickey ears, which were actually the ones that look like the fairy godmothers hats, each girl got her favorite princess Barbie and the villian doll that went with it, my wife bought them each a sun umbrella with thir names painted on them, and I cant remember now what else. Everything else they did themselves and did great. It was a good lesson for them on saving for something they want and the value of the dollar.

I remembered a couple of other gifts....lol...I bought them each a Tinkerbell visor and their autograph and pressed penny books. I think the auto books are the best souvenier they got. We pasted the pics of them with each character on the page opposite the autograph. They got like 23 each. I am sure I bought more but its all such a blur. I could never bring myself to bring gifts along and then the give them to the kids. Thats half the fun of it!

One thing we are doing now is buying cheap pins at the Disney Store and Disney Outlet so the kids have pins to trade..not such a bad thing to bring with you, especially when we have been paying $0.50 to $0.75 per pin, much more affoardable that way!

wdwforus you sound alot like us. There is way to much to pick from, you have to set limits and there is so many neat things at Disney I would hate to say "sorry, mom already bought your things" but the pins, they get to trade so they still get to pick them out.
