Save your change!

When I decided to go to Disney, I made a decision to save my change. Doing so involves rounding each cash purchase up to the next dollar (always rounding up) and never using change, if you can help it. I started this about eight or nine months ago. I got around to rolling it today. Keep in mind, there's more change that didn't make a full roll. But it just shows you that change can add up!

That's $193.50, and I still have 9 more months until my trip!

We started doing something similar- Keep the 5s. It adds up REALLY fast, especially if you get your cash from the ATMs which leaves you always breaking 20s. For example, I used a twenty to buy a bag of nuts for $4 at the fair and got 3 fives and a single. My $4 purchase forced me to save $15

I use my debit card for everything so this forced me to start using cash more often, but I've been able to save a lot of small bills that would have otherwise been blown on incidentals.

Correction- I WAS able to save. I spent it at DL this past week ;)

I do this every year with all my coins. 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, 1 euro & 2 euro,s. It usually adds up to around 1000 euros each year mostly because of the 1 euro & 2 euro coins!

I think the best thing about all this money is that I didn't miss it. It just accumulated over time, and then when I rolled it, I suddenly had cash. I'm keeping it in rolled form until December, otherwise I might be tempted to spend it. But considering I'm almost at $200, I'm happy with the progress.

Also, I caught a 20 Euro cent piece in my nickels. Good thing I didn't roll that one! I wish we had more dollar coins here; I have two of the golden dollar coins, but I can only imagine how quickly cash would accumulate with actual dollar and two-dollar coins, and not just quarters.

I have my own version of this too - I don't spend singles. I keep them to use for tips, snacks, etc. Helps with two things - I can save them over the year so I don't have to worry about it when trip time comes, and I don't have to remember to go the bank to get singles right before we leave.

I also have a Disney Visa that I use the points toward my AP. It doesn't cover it, but it makes it a little less of a shock.

I have a terramundi pot that I've been putting £1 and £2 coins in and I won't know what's in it until it's full and I break it. We also have a large whisky bottle in the kitchen that we put 1, 2, 5, and 10p coins into. We're not going back to WDW until next year as we're doing other holidays this year - so I'm keeping them for our park tickets - unless I crack and go to DLRP in December and use it for Euros!!
