i paid $450 more for a savannah view. Will it be worth it? I have a 3 year old that loves animals and I thought it would make his trip a little more magical. Make me feel better about the money.:)

We paid more for a Savannah view and it was worth it. My kids 6 and 8 spent the first 30 minutes we were in our hotel just sitting on the balcony watching the animals. You can see them all over the hotel, but there's nothing quite like them being outside your very own room.
I have heard you can sometimes get upgraded to a Savannah view for free once you get there. But that is taking a chance!

It is more than worth the money. It is an experience unlike no other. There is nothing like waking up to the animals right outside of your room. Everyday after we were done at the parks, we couldn't wait to get back to the room to see which of the animals would be outside of our room! Your 3 year old will love the animals. There wasn't a time that I was out on the balcony that I didn't hear a small child laughing with glee, pointing in amazement at the animals, or just trying to get the animals attention..."Hey Giraffe!" It is a great experience for kids...and it really is a learning experience as well. You will enjoy every minute, I just know it! Have a fun trip! (I am so jealous!)

It's nice and all but...seriously....

$450?!?!?!?!? Disney should be ashamed of themselves to charge that much more for a room just because it's across the hall from a non-savannah view room!

It will be great, non doubt. But $450? That's WAY out of line!

$560 a night at the Polynesian. Oh, and no animals (not counting the critters that take all my money away while I'm sleeping. Feel better? Me either.

[We are also staying at the AKL for 3 nights and looking forward to it.]

We stayed there once and all I have to say is 2 words, never again. We paid big bucks for a deluxe savannah room, (quuen bed, bunk bed and day bed). We hardly ever saw any animals. Our littlest ds kept saying, this is my worst vacation ever, take me back to the polynesian. No matter what time we were on the balcony we only saw maybe a butt or two from the cattle like animals. We were on like the 4th floor. Only when the snack truck came around we saw animals. At 5:30 a.m. on our check out day we did see 2 giraffees in the public viewing area. For the money you are paying, if you are not happy with your room, ask to be moved. We did try that and they said the only rooms available would be a down grade for us, so we were stuck. My 3 ds were so disappointed. Now we will just visit there if they ever ask, and they havent yet. We saw more animals on the safari at the AK. I have read everyone elses good posts, I guess we were just the exception. Also we relied on disney transportation and it seemed like we were just so far away from everything. But I hope you enjoy your stay at AKL.

That is sad marypopmom. I had read a couple of posts like yours before we went a couple of weeks ago. I was worried we wouldn't see many animals. We really did see a ton. All hours of the day. Once in the hot tub there were four giraffes eating right next to us. I hope if your kids do want to go back you'll have a better time.
I also reccomend the night vision goggles they do out in the public viewing area. Our kids thought those were awesome.

Just out of curiosity, what Savannah was your room on? No animals?

It was so bad I threw the map out after the trip but we hung a left around the lobby and took the elevator up, off the elevator we veered to the right alittle, the left was another huge hallway) our room was on the right side, very far down the hall, almost near the end. only one more hallway of rooms was left to the end of the bldg.)If you looked out the balcony all the way across was like this little hut tower of the bldg. way across the way. To the left out the balcony was trees. I am probably not describing it correctly, but we were no where near the pool (which was the downgrade they wanted to give us) and we were not on the lobby side.

 $450 a night or extra for the week? Either way you might want to fire your travel agent. I'm going now in Nov and the savanah view room was only a $15 dollar difference for 3 days. And I thought my daily rate was expensive at $170 a night (taxes already included).
