Satellite view of Mickey

I switched to the map view, and it's off of Schofield Rd. in Clermont.... then I looked up businesses on that road and it came up with Lakeshore Growers, which is apparently some kind of plant/garden company. It looked to be like a mile away from where the Mickey is though.

I really have no clue, but it seems like that would make sense....

There have been other threads about this before, but none of the ones I read thru seemed to really come up with how this area came to be. One post said it was planted by a group of CM's on a Voluntears outing to a state park, but that doesn't look like a park to me. I don't know if its on property or not. Whatever the origin of it, it's cool!

Make sure you click the photography on the left of the screen. They have aerials from 1998. It was also around in 98.

I do not know who Ames Holding llc is but maybe it was one of the original dummy corporations disney made when he bought property in Florida in the 60's.

It is apparently pretty big, too - it looks like it could cover a good portion of the Magic Kingdom. I've never heard of this before, but I might just have to drive out there and see it!

It is between a 1/4 to 1/2 mile wide.
Not sure if you would be able to see it from ground level.

Would be interesting to see it.

It appears that the "head" is about 300 meters, which is about 3 1/3 football fields wide !

Each "ear" around 200 meters or 2 football fields!

I just drove to go see this! Its on a dirt road, basically in the middle of nowhere, but only about a mile from Rt. 27. Of course, you can't really make out the shape from the ground, but I could tell it was it.

Wow... how soon we forget...

Those pine trees were planted in early 1992 by a lot of sweaty cast members and family members to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Walt Disney World Resort as well as promote environmentality.

The land is (was? I think we've deannexed some chunks up that way) a Reedy Creek Improvement District parcel.

Cast members can stop by the Walt Disney World Library and Research Center in the SunTrust building and take a look at the Eyes & Ears issue from late Feb/early March 1992 (can't recall exactly which, it was a week or two after obviously) to see a cool write-up.

Did you get any clues as to what it is?

??

We already knew what it is...

...a bunch of pine trees shaped like Mickey.

Thanks for the info, kurros! I never knew about that. Its kind of strange that its still there but is unmarked, abandoned, and forgotten.

Anybody able to get the write up from this magazine and post it? I'd be interested in reading it...

Well, it was actually dark out when I went... but I could still make it out. I'll try to go back in the daytime to get some pics... but it honestly just looks like a big cluster of trees since you can't make out the shape from the ground.

Sadly, I think a lot of us still want to see pics....
