San Angel Inn

Need a little help, I hear conflicting reviews on the quality of people's experiences at the San Angel Inn. From what I hear the atmosphere is excellent but the food may not be up to par. I have not been back there in quit some time (~7 years), any thoughts would be appreciated.

Everytime I see this restaurant brought up, I find the same types of responses...half the people love it all & half say the food left a lot to be desired. Honestly, I think it all boils down to what kind of Mexican food you're used to. For example, I was raised in Texas with a Stepfather who was Mexican...I am used to "the real thing" as far as Mexican food goes. However, I dated a few Italians & while they know their pasta, some of them had barely even experienced Taco Bell. They have less to compare to as far as Mexican cuisine goes.

I happen to love San Angel Inn....everything about it. I never miss it when I'm at WDW. The atmosphere is incredible & the food is up o typical Disney standards, as far as I'm concerned. BTW, they have outstanding margaritas & pina coladas, as well... in case that's of interest. :D

I had lunch there once and liked it. I´m mexican, so I know what mexican food is... I think the San Angel Inn and the Maya Grill (same owner) are very good. I loooved the food at the Maya Grill... it was mexican "haute cuisine" to put it some way. San Angle Inn was kind of the same, but less expensive. The atmosphere is very nice too. I think it all comes down to what your perception of mexican food is. If you think it is like Taco Bell, then go to the Cantina outside, but if you want better food, try San Angel Inn!! :slurp:

We never miss while we are there. Their queso fundito is wonderful ( it is a melted cheese appitizer). I have always had a good meal there. Hope this helps.

San Angel

I have mixed reviews regarding San Angel yet overall I enjoy eating there. The atmosphere and the quality of the food are good. My biggest compaint is that the entrees (steak and turkey) seem to be to bland for my taste.

Okay, another Hispanic chimes in! I absolutely LOVE San Angel. I agree with Maria and the others about liking what you're used to, but even considering that it's a great place to eat.
The Plato Mexicano is wonderful, and washed down with a Marguerita it's even better! To top it off, he atmosphere is every bit as good as the food. I've got priority seating for May 26th and can hardly wait.
By the way, if you like your food with a little extra kick, the waiters are more than happy to bring out some salsa verde for toppping.

Okay, first off, I'm about as white-bread as they come. Sometimes, milk can be too spicy for me. ;)

That said, DW and I really like San Angel. First, the atmosphere is wonderful. Second, the food is pretty good. (I've just got to remember to ask for just about anything potentially spicy to be removed. :) ) The ingredients seem to be nice and fresh. The chips they give you to much on are just wonderfully crisp and salty enough without being too salty or greasy.

I'd say go and enjoy. It's a nice little place.

I ate lunch there this past Saturday. The food was excellent, the service was superb, the ambiance was and is always incredible. My favorite restaurant at EPCOT and I've eaten at them all. Keep in mind this is not Taco Bell, I'd wager its pretty close to "real" Mexican food. The prices are reasonable also. Lunch for 4 adults was $70 including tip. Portions very generous:sohappy:

As far as atmosphere, its the best Disney has to offer. The food would rate about a 6 (on a scale of 1-10)- its overpriced and nothing special, Mexico produces much better dishes than this- they don't even have tacos al pastor or barbacoa. The service a 3, the waiters aren't friendly and they either make you feel rushed or are never there when you need them.

I agree with madhatter, as far as atmosphere San Angel is the best in WDW. Plus the food is really good to boot, if you're going to eat in World Showcase, San Angel Inn is definaly the place you want to eat.

It's on my not to be missed list.

Food is excellent (even my meat and potatoes husband loves it), atmosphere is unbeatable. I've found the service a bit surly at times, depends on your server I guess, but it won't put me off.

We also love this place. The atmosphere is unbeatable, and the food is great. I think most people who don't like it are looking for Tex-mex as opposed to Mexican food. The only down side is the service, which has been very unDisneylike the last two times we have been. We just refuse to let the servers rush us, or push us around (one tried to tell us the kids aged 2 and 4 at the time could not share a meal!!--The 2 year old never ate more than a few bits back then), and enjoy all there is to see and taste.

Last time I ate there was on our last WDW trip three years ago, but it impressed us. Even my son (a picky 12 years old at the time) loved it. We're going someplace different on our upcoming trip next month(simply because there are so many places in Epcot we haven't tried), but I wouldn't hesitate to go back.
