Sad State of The Grand Floridian

We've stayed at the 4S at WDW and loved it. The staff was impeccable, the rooms beautiful, and the grounds amazing. That said we will probably never stay there again. The reason isn't cost or that we didn't enjoy it. If it was any where else in the US it would be one of our favorite resort destinations. It's because it's at WDW that we won't stay there again. We've stayed at the GF more times than I can count and will be there again at the end of the week. When we go to WDW, one of the reasons I enjoy it so much is due to convenience - the fact that I can check my luggage at the airport and hotel and not worry about it, that my wife and I can have dinner and cocktails and take Disney transportation back to our room, that we can resort hop easily, and that we can sit on the our balcony or float in the pool and watch the nightly fireworks. Unfortunately the 4S doesn't offer that. The Floridian has flaws and it definitely has slipped from where it was in the 90s which is a shame, but we still love it and the quality of staff has improved, IMO, over the recent years. It's still a beautiful hotel and if it wasn't at WDW it would not be close to what the 4S offers, but you know what they say...location, location, location.

We stayed at GF last year (3/18) in the main building and did not notice any of the issues you are detailing. Then again, we basically went from our room to the parks and back and did not roam the hotel that much. I agree with you that the building is old and WDW's "flagship" hotel needs an upgrade but if they do, I would like them to keep what makes GF.
