sad days at disney

Unfortunately there are a lot of rude people in our society. If it really bothers me, I will say something in a nice fashion and if it doesn't work at least I tried--we had rude people cut us off at WCC at the WL and somewhere else on our trip someone cut in front of a whole bunch of people. You have rude CM's, rude parents, rude kids, etc. But it is not only at Disney that I see this--I see this at the grocery store, the mall, etc. We are a society that has become "me first."

I'm sorry to say but the type of rude behaviour that you've encountered is a reflection of the standards of modern society. Some people just couldn't give a ____*t how their children behave (or don't realise that they should behave any differently)

I would offer just one reassuring fact for you - be proud that you've brought your children up to behave properly - others will respect you for it

it just keeps getting better. Inline today for splash mountain. We wait for 30 min in line then the ride goes down. Then it rains for half the day. And to top it all off some how one of the reservations I made for hoop de dip review was canceled. I know I did not do it. So this is one of those trips that it is one bad thing after the other

That's ironic...

...we fly because we find that all the crazy drivers on the road stress us out.

We live in Illinois but spend a great deal of our time in Missouri so we are used to the crazy drivers......only joking to all you Missourian's!

I've only stayed at POP...do other resorts not have a roped Q?

The only resort I've stayed at that had a queue for buses was the Pop, and it was soooooo nice. I've stayed at the Poly, WL, CBR and CSR and it was always a mad rush of people trying to get on the bus whenever the bus came.

Sorry that Splash went down for you, that would be a bummer. But don't get caught up in thinking the rain will ruin your day. I was there about a month ago during tropical storm fay and it rained every day but one, sure it would have been better without rain. But I wasn't going to let it ruin your fun. I'm guessing that by hoop de dip, you mean hoop de doo? I would think that as long as you had your confirmation number they should still honor your reservation.

when we drive down to Florida to stay at Disney....we use our car to drive everywhere within WDW. I cannot stand Disney buses. They take too long and they are overcrowded. If you're staying at WDW Resort...parking is free everywhere anyways....why not take advantage of it. I know the WDW roads blindfolded...

. Flying down I had two kids kicking any pounding their fists in their tray on the plane. U think their mom, who was sitting beside them would say anything to them. Nope.

Adults can be just as bad. My last trip down, the guy in front of me pushed his chair way back before the plane even left the run way...a real no no. The stewardess stopped by and asked him to put it up, but said something like, "yeah I know dumb rules". Well he put it down again, and she could see this as she sat only a few rows away facing us. She never said a word....we were on the runway over a half hour...

Our past trip was in experience with some rude people. We had one family that was split up at the VOLM at DHS. One set was towards the front of the cue area and the others were in the back, the kids kept running back and forth between the two groups but instead of going around us (the room was not crowded) they continued to run between us, pushing us out of the way. I finally asked them to keep their kids under control, it didn't help.
Another time, we were waiting for Finding Nemo, the musical to start, we had great seats and the family next to us let their daughter climb on the railings in front of us. Finally a cast member proceeds over towards them and them mother says "It looks like your going to get into trouble for not sitting down." The cast member walks back to their post and the child continues to climb on the railings while the mother talks to everyone around asking them personal questions.
You are on vacation, doesn't mean you can leave your manners at the door. I am on vacation and I go out of my way to help others, giving up my seat on the bus even though I walked all day and just had knee surgery 2 months ago, offering to take family pictures for them, picking up toys left on the floor of shops, etc. Making someone else feel better and magical, makes me feel like I am spreading a little magic.

I just returned today. I have noticed a lot of melt downs from kids. Many crying and parents yelling. There's no crying at Disney. Seems parents may be pushing thier children to do too much. Monday night we were waiting for the boat to return to the Beach Club around 11pm. parents were getting off the boat going to MGM with their kids sound a sleep in a stroller.

This past summer we were at MK for the evening EMH's and let me tell you there was very little magic in it for some of those kids. We heard one little girl telling her family "But you dont' understand, I am exhausterated"..she was crying wanting to go to bed and the older brother was wanting to go on rides. The girl was probably about 8 or 9 yrs old. We felt bad for her..it was 2 AM and we still had another hour of EMH's. As a parent, you have to know when enough is enough. If we do the evening hours we will take a good break during the heat of the day, and probably sleep in the next day. You can only do so much.

Sad but true. And it's getting much worse every day.

Absolutely!

Kudos :sohappy:

The best way to counter this type of behavior is to be the exact opposite. Even if you have to go out of your way. People will notice, and it is contagious. Give a stranger at the end of the stand-by line the fastpasses you are not going to use. Let an elderly, handicapped, pregnant, tired, etc. person have your seat on the bus. Give a confused guest your tips and advice on how to get the most out of their WDW vacation. Be patient...
...All of these things have been done by strangers at WDW for me and my family. Why not pay it forward?:animwink:

I had the same thing happen to me on the monorail a couple of years ago. My elderly Mother (86 and counting!) was with us, she is frail but has great stamina, just not a lot of "bulK". We got shoved to the side trying to get on the monorail. Now, you can shove me....not really, but do not shove my Mom. I will get in the way of anyone who does that. At that point in time I didn't care if something escalated or not, I was going to let them know I was angry with their lack of respect. They took offense but I made my point loud and clear. I would do it again in a heart beat. Later I over heard them talking amoungest themselves that they couldn't believe I thought they were trying to knock her over. I know they were just not thinking but the excuse they didn't "mean" it wasn't cutting it with me.

As a summer seasonal CM, I've seen LOTS of families with overtired small children in tow who seemed to be attending EMH only to "get their money's worth' - long past the point where ANYONE was having any fun. If you're planning on attending EMH, folks - and yes, they can be a LOT of fun! - make sure the family is well-rested! Over-tired people can be very rude.

Heading for the great escape.
If the kids cant keep up with the pace they really do need to give themselves a long hard look in the mirror and grow up a little. Whiners.

As for other folks shortcomings, I try to ignore them, as when you are as perfect as me, its easy to become irritable at those not so gifted as a parent or all round human being.

No argument here....and with these guests, it is amazing that CM's can keep up as much of the magic as they do. They have to deal with the rudeness, entitlement and disrespect every day....:(

I think I can handle it better as a CM because I have also been that stressed Dad (or the relaxed Dad with the stressed wife and kids! lol)...so understanding where they may be coming from helps a LOT to deal with it sometimes.... That being said, it may also be because I only work there part time and not full time! lol
