From my understanding:

1 wing and the tower will be remodeled, and will remain hotel rooms
1 wing will become DVC
Chef Mickeys will take over the space occupied by the Outer Rim Lounge and Concourse Steakhouse
A new steakhouse and lounge will be built where the food and fun center is

Not sure if the food and fun center will be relocated or not.
ohhh bigger chef mickeys!! :D
they need that, as it is strictly reservations only :(

Little bits of confusion to clarify:

No word on DVC, lots of speculation, no one really knows but Disneya nd they aint talking.

The entire south wing is closed. It is surrounded by rehab walls and the rooms are being redone.

In the tower, the 12th floor is being redone on the bay lake side first. The 12th floor is Tower Club - not a normal Tower room. Tower club rooms go up by $80 dollars a night in 2006, while the rest of the rooms at the contemporary go up in-line with all other resorts increasing their prices, roughly 10-20 dollars depending on the time of year.

Do you mean that one of the wings would be come moderatly priced? no pun intended.

I would highly doubt that-regardless of location within the resort, the location OF the resort and it's transportation options (monorail to 2 theme parks and walking distance of one of those) plays a huge role in it's rates. The moderates are just that because their amenities are less-part of that being transportation options. Even the Wilderness Lodge is a lower priced Deluxe-because of (in my opinion) crappy transportation options.

We were at CR july 1-5th on 8th floor of the tower and the 10th Floor Bay View side was curtained off. With guests still on the MK view side. Also, the south wing only part of it was closed of with guests still in the first hallway of rooms closest to the tower.

I was also on the 8th floor of the Tower that week, I checked in on 7/4.

Were you on the MK side or Bay Lake Side?

Actually the 12th Floor TC rooms ARE the same as normal tower rooms, just located on a restricted access floor.

How can you consider WL to have crappy transportation options? They have busses (like every other hotel), but they also have boat transportation.

Now AKL... That has crappy transportation options. For being a deluxe resort, it kinda stinks that busses are the only option. All other Deluxe's have at least water and many have monorail options. As far as transportation options go, AKL isn't much better than the All-Stars...

Those little Gilligan boats scare me  I just don't think they are the fastest things to ever set sail. I'm not trying to "dis" the WL, but when you compare it to other Deluxe Resorts (with the exception of AKL) it's transportation options are lacking. I think. :lookaroun

I heard that if you want a view of the Magic Kingdom now from a tower room, it is going to cost even more. There will be a whole new category for that view.

In my opinion, this is great. I've often requested a Magic Kingdom view and they haven't done anything about it. Ever. This is a great way to make it so people will only get what they pay for.

I have never stayed at the Contempary. Will I be disappointed in the rooms. I will have a garden view. Matter of fact I have never stayed at any of the resorts before. We will be celebrating my BD a couple of wks early. Should I say anything or not, or even ask for an upgrade?

AliciaLuvzDizne, it is not strictly reservations only... You can walk in and see if they have room for you, you might have to wait 15 minutes or so... Unless they are packed.

Disnut I stayed at the CR one night a few weeks ago in the Garden view. I was hightly disapointed at the rooms for the price. There wasn't anything I would call "special" about them. We stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge for the last 6 nights, and they were WONDERFUL!!! :sohappy: Even a lady who worked at the CR said we would like the AKL a lot better than CR.. Haha, she was right :p

...Not trying to bash the CR, but they really do need a make over!

You can look at www.allearsnet.com for some pics of the rooms at the CR, including the remodeled ones if you want to see if you think you'll be disappointed. The old style rooms didn't appeal to me at all, but the new ones look luxurious!

"Contemporary Resort Rehab: Renovations on the 10th floor of the
Contemporary Tower are under way and should be completed by the
end of this August. The 12th floor is next on the schedule, and
the Atrium Club (Concierge Light) will be temporarily housed on
the 10th floor until work is finished in January 2006. A lounge
with fireworks viewing is planned for the 12th floor, and night
service, similar to that of the Tower Club (Concierge, 14th
Floor) will begin in January 2006. Rehab work is also in
progress on the South Garden Wing."

The DVC rumour has been around for at least couple of years - probably longer. There was a lot of discussion about a monorail resort for DVC when the Eagle Pines discussions were going on. I always call my guide when they happen because I'd consider an add-on in that area. Heck they've rumored the Polynesian and AKL as well. All probably wishful thinking. Smart if they made the garden wing DVC though since they'd probably get more out of the area. Unfortunately they'd probably take away staying in the Tower on points the way they did Beach Club if they do go DVC. I am very excited about the new renovations. I'm not a big fan of the current Jetson's decor and I think the new color is more - well contemporary. I look forward to staying once the construction is over.
