What ever happened to WestCot? I have an article from the Disney Magazine from several years ago that talks about it and makes it seem like it was really going to happen. Then it never did. I think I would've enjoyed it, since Epcot is my favourite park at WDW. But I guess since they feel Epcot is lacking and needs to be spiced up, they wouldn't build something like it in Anaheim. :(

This begs the question "what are they building in Anaheim". We know where the land is, we know it's about 80 acres (DCA was 55 acres when it opened...w/ the ToT and Flik's Fun Fair I'm sure that number rose a little), will probably include a water park and most definitely new Resort Hotel(s). But, what will the third theme park be? That old thirdthemepark website made it sound like a mix of all the wdw parks, and I hope that's not what they are building...it's very curious.

I think there is one important factor in this post....Walt Disney Imagineering over the years has 'scrapped' thousands of ideas and proposals. In fact, there is such a high ratio of what was no built to what was. All of these could once have been hot, new ideas, but due to financial or other reasons, may have been put on the back burner!!:brick:

WDI's job is to turn out idea after idea for new attractions, knowing that maybe 1 out of every 100 ideas will ever make it even off the drawing board, and only 1 of 100 ideas that get this far will get built. It has always been this way, too--Walt had a LOT of great ideas for Disneyland, but Roy would always tell him what was feasable and what wasn't.

The point behind Animal Kingdom has always been to showcase animals real, extinct, and imagined. If dragons don't belong, then neither does the Yeti (as far as I am concerned, he is imaginary, too).
WOAHHH...
Believe it or not... there are still people in asia who claim to have seen a Yeti.. just as there are people in the US who keep saying that Bigfooot exist...

Look, the time we're living in now, is one of the worst operating environments theme parks like Disney could possibly be in, with the combination of a difficult economy and the fear of travel because of terrorism, Disney can't ramp up spending dramatically, so the Imagineers have to try to do more with less.

Which they are doing...I've always thought DCA was a perfect example. They had absolutely no room to work with and managed to produce a park with more attractions than I have ever seen in a new park paid for by Disney. Mixed reviews, of course, but I liked it. But, don't they seem to be greatly increasing spending right now? So many new attractions are in the works...

The water park and new hotel(s) sound good. I hope the new theme park won't be a mix of all the WDW parks.. that just sounds horrible. Although I think at this point in time, WestCot wouldn't be a great idea either. Come on, Disney, think NEW! :p

I was re-reading that article I mentioned, and I could already see that California history was going to be a big part of the new Disneyland Resort including WestCot. It looks like they just scrapped WestCot and said "Eh, let's just go with ALL California stuff." I have the article and will post it here if anyone's interested. There's no date on it, but I guesstimate it's from 1991 or maybe early 1992. It's a fun look at what might've been. :D

Off topic I know, but let me get this straight, ISTCNavigator57 -- you liked DCA but you didn't like DS Paris?

We hated DCA. Very disappointing. We didn't mind GRR or the coaster, but we could do better versions of those at our local amusement park in Connecticut for half the price. The only thing we thought was clever and unique at DCA was SOC, but that could have used better theming thoughout.

As for DS Paris -- we were quite impressed with the Armageddon experience, loved the movie with Martin Short (talk about clever without spending a lot of money -- VERY cute -- wish we could get this in WDW!), loved the Reign of Fire surprise on the backlot tour, and let's not forget Moteurs Action! That was such a fantastic stunt show! RnRC is better in Florida, but the Paris RnRC still beats out the DCA coaster.

Hands down, if I had to spend a day in one of these two parks, I'd pick DS Paris every time! And very surprised anyone who'd been to both would pick DCA.

I absolutely loved California Adventure. I found the Aladdin show incredible, loved their Animation pavillion, enjoyed the attractions taken from wdw, was AMAZED by Soarin' Over California, through Grizzly River Run was fun, but coulda been better themed, enjoyed learning about California culture in the Golden State, loved the music throughout the park, and found Paradise Pier to be a fun area...I loved the park
