Rumors at last!

From Screamscape:

The latest rumor we’ve received about DLP claims that the “Wishes” fireworks show from Disney World will be added to the park for the Summer. While the Wishes bit sounds possible... I’m a bit more skeptical about this other Summer 2005 rumor. They claim that Space Mountain will go down for an extended rehab for at least three months where they will upgrade the trains and special effects in the ride and reopen it with a slightly new “Super Nova” theme that will feature asteroid collisions and an all new audio soundtrack. Anyone know more?

The Wishes part sounds quite possible! I hope this will be the boost in attendance that DLP needs! I doubt they would change the music of SM but a rehab is very good! They can present the park with a fresh and new feeling! I'm very happy with the way management is handling the situation! :sohappy:

I remember reading on some board or another that they had to redesign the fireworks for DLP because of the noise complaints. Wonder if that will have any effect on Wishes if it does make it there.

They couldn`t do the current version of Wishes using the noise abatement pyrotechnics currently used at DLP. Either it would be a different production, or the neighbours would get free earplugs.

Plus, the Magic Kingdom lauch area is a good 1/4 mile North of Cinderella Castle.... any high explosion pyro would have to be smaller and explode lower at DLP to get the same effect. I`ve often thought about this myself - just look at the (very good) DLP new years show - the high explosion pyro is different from the TDL derived pyro used in Wishes (or WDWs FITS) - eg the Blue Fairy sequence...

I was last at DLP around early December, it was the first time I have been to a Disney park at Christmas time and it was magical, especially loved the fake snow on the gardens in front of the castle and the lights on Main Street were fantastic but I must say the firework show when I was there, although good, was a little erm, how do I put this, not quite Disney Standards so maybe Wishes, although certainly smaller than its Floridian counterpart, will be a welcome edition to the park!

RE: Screamscape & Christmas Fireworks

Hey there, Hi there, Ho there,

regarding the Christmas Fireworks: these are rather short and unspectacular even for DLP (details: http://www.dlp.info/ShowsAndParades/Xmas/XmasFireworks.htm) and can't be compared to its summer fireworks, called Tinkerbell's Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks running around 12 minutes and featuring more spectacular effects and more colors.

Regarding the Screamscape news: I don't know about the fireworks rumour, but Space Mountain will NOT close for three months in a row according to management of DLP, as the attraction is too important for the park. Instead there will be a three month time frame during which most of the work will be done - at night. But, there might be closures of the ride for some hours or a few selected dates on short notice during this time. What work? They plan to upgrade the FX to state of the art technology in time for the 10th anniversary of the ride in 2005 - this might include some new themeing or a new score, but this has not yet been decided ... see http://www.dlp.info/NewsAndRumours/Rumours.shtml

Hey Dirk!!

Don`t get too excited - the SFX upgrades have been rumoured for a few years now, and they are still just RUMOUR.

BTW - the Xmas fireworks are primarily white since its xmas - just as they are at any other Disney Park (see the Wishes MVMCP or Fantasy in the Sky xmas finale at the MK) Also, isn`t that video you linked to just the Xmas Finale variation?

As for DLPs regular FITS - cute, different, but you can tell its a scaled down show... its no where near the league of Believe... or even Wishes.

Well at the end of the day, a smaller resort gets a scaled down show and thats what we have to make do with for the time being. But don't get me wrong, nothing can beat that Xmas feeling while watching the fireworks at Xmas in DLP! :xmas: :sohappy:
