Ok. Sounds good but...

I thought the whole reason that development was going to take so long at the Magic Site was becasue of the moving floor effects and stuff - hence a lot of build work - and therefore Sept 03 sounds a long way off but fair.

If they have got rid of that - albiet adding other effects - why clos Lion King story - which was always popular - so early?

The animation side isnt dependent on the theatre being closed?

Anyone know why its taken them 18 months to "rebuild" the theatre?

Just wondering really

Based on precedent, there's all kinds of fits and spurts that these retrofits go through. Parts of it are readied early, then there is testing before you implement the rest... etc. And even though they ditched the motion seating system, there are other in-theater effects remaining, and that adds to the complexity.

Think about it this way. When you assemble a major piece of furniture or a large component in a machine, you just hand tighten all the screws until you know everything is well-aligned. You don't (unless you're inexperienced or just not a smart person) tighten any screws until all of them are in.

So there'll be test and adjust until the last components are all done, so they have flexibility to take care of any unforseen surprises. Even at WDI, they happen.

Remember when they designed EPCOT Center's color scheme in smoggy Burbank? They tested outdoor color palettes in the California sun. But when they started doing color tests in FLORIDA, the colors were MUCH too garish. Why? Because the air is cleaner in Florida. More pure sunlight gets to the Earth. In Burbank, the colors were naturally designed to "pop" more under sunlight that was more muted and limited.

EVERY outdoor color palette was re-evaluated for EPCOT Center because of this. That took some time.

You never know what you might run into. And the screen for this alone is a massive undertaking.

Disney will have to do a lot of work to get the new theatre to fit in where the Lion King was--this theatre is at least twice as long and I would guess at least the same length back. I am surprised that they dropped the motion-based floor...oh well...It's Tough to Be a Bug! is great and it doesn't have one...also keep in mind this attraction has a relatively small crew for the time being since disney has two e-ticket attractions in the works at the time being(I consider the other 3D shows to be E-Ticket Attractions, so I'm guessing this will be one as well...)

Oh I think that 2002 will be the last time I will visit WDW in a while and two cool rides are opening in 2003! Damn it!
