Weren't there pictures of testing being done in the DL sub lagoon that basically led people to believe they were testing some type of clear box/surface that would be located underwater that would be transparent to the riders, but provided a surface allowing for some type of projection or hologram to be used? It was about a year ago, but there were pics out there. I saw them as well.

Um, neither of these posts seem to make any sense.

top loading -- if AAs come from above -- no need to drain

mcguyver -- caulk -- the guy made an engine out of paperclips and a rubber band -- caulk could do some crazy stuff for someone that was inventive...

sorry that i have to explain everything --

Uh, still don't understand what you mean by that. The point is the AAs in water=Bad.

the fishies are top loading aren't they -- why not the AAs. IF they are SEALED -- THEY WON'T BE A PROBLEM -- there are lights underwater -- we have on in our pool.. and my walkman works underwater too -- kind cool when you dunk your head.. You don't really HAVE TO put everybody down all the time. If it would work -- would be cool huh?

Actually from what I understand Jungle cruise animals that are in the water aren't AA's as we think of them. They use air pressure and hydrolics to get the movements no electronic parts to them. I believe that's why they weren't recognized as the first AA's in the parks. That would be the Tiki birds

Actually, I believe that all of Disney’s audio-animatronic figures move with fluid power (hydraulic and pneumatic actuators) – even the Tiki birds (Lucky the dinosaur is the only exception). As you may know, hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders can be operated completely submerged; however, the valves that run the cylinders cannot (although I’m sure submergible valves are common now). Therefore, it is completely possible to create a sophisticated audio-animatronic figure run under water if the valves are high and dry or water proof. If Disney wanted to do so, yes, they could even create a yeti that operated under water; the Imagineers would have to increase the psi of the fluid because the surrounding water pressure is much higher than that of air.

In regards to the sophistication of Disney’s animatronics, the Jungle cruise animals are not considered AAs because they are only capable of simple repetitive movements. The Tiki birds, on the other hand, were the first to not be limited to repetition, thus making them the first performing audio-animatronic figures.

But economically, does it make sense to invest all the money to make water-proof AAs when it could have been avoided? I don't think so.

Please point out where I have "put someone down."

Possibly...

and take the stick out too!

Again, I have no idea what you mean.

nope -- sure gets wet though -- did you know that there used to not be ghosts -- then disney invented them for their attractions...
Um... actually the technology behind Haunted Mansion is quite old fashioned. The most elaborate effect is Madame Leota, and even that is simply done.

Don't believe me?...

Google "Pepper's Ghost"

Yeah but those things do not have to be able to realistically move. Once you load up your AA with caulk I am afraid its movements won't be very fluidly.

The underwater figures do not have to be sealed; it is perfectly okay to expose the metallic mechanical understructure, the fluid power components, and the hose that supplies the figures with air/hydraulic oil to the water!:brick:
