Rude Guest-Character Interactions

Hi! :)

Have you ever witnessed any bad guest-character interactions? I have seen quite a few in past trips and it makes me wonder how people can be so awful to characters.

One that comes to mind happened around 2-3 years ago, at the Crystal Palace, to poor Eeyore. A family 2 tables away from mine had been rather unruly the entire time we were there (the parents were letting the kids scream and run around), but they had acted rather decent with the characters, up until Eeyore. He came by, autographed the childrens' books, and posed for a picture. But then the mother told her children to give him a hug, and they both punched him in the nose!
I was honestly so shocked and I felt so bad for the character performer. And the mother of the kids didn't even scold them! She just laughed it off!
It amazes me how rude people can be, especially towards characters, whether face or fur.
(It can happen the other way around, of course, as I've seen a homophobic Mickey Mouse )

Have you ever witnessed rude guest-character interactions? I'd love to hear other stories about this topic.

In my personal experiences guest interactions with characters within Walt Disney World are controlled by character hosts, creating positive environments. However, it seems that guests can be quite rude to characters in settings such as Chef Mickey's (a character dining experience) where hosts aren't traveling around with characters.

I like posing for pictures with the handlers...You get some great reactions over this. Last trip, one of the handlers for Muppet Mobile Labs was also working Mary Poppens a few days later and Alice another day. He made sure to let us get pictures for being so weird, even if the line was closed. We got a full 10 minutes with Mary one day in the UK for it and it was truly magical. It made my fiancées day!

A couple of years ago I was standing in line to get in to the MK. A family was in front of me, and while most of them were already in, a lady in the group who was in an ECV had something wrong with her ticket. She seemed to be fine with waiting for it to be sorted out. But the "dad" in the family, a guy in his late 30's or early 40's, was just having a fit, whining, throwing himself about, saying "just let her in - it won't hurt anyone to let her in - this is HORRIBLE!!!", and generally acting like a 4 year old. Amazing!

One time I was walking through Fantasyland with my wife, heading toward Tomorrowland, and I guess Pooh and Tigger had just finished their M&G by The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Their handlers were walking them over to where they go backstage, and of course people were shouting and waving, which is fine, and the characters were waving back as they walked, with the handlers telling people they were going to take a break but would be out later (or something like that). Well, right before they get to where they're going, a group of people that looked like 2-3 teenagers and a grown adult woman (who I couldn't tell if they were a family or a tour group, as they were all dressed alike) came barging through and literally shoved the handlers out of the way. They started to basically pull on Pooh and Tigger to get them to pose for selfies with them. When they were done manhandling all of the CMs, they just kept smiling and laughing as they went on their way and the characters got back on their way. I couldn't believe how awful they were, especially the adult, who seemed to be having the time of her life while she physically pushed people around to get her way.

Luckily I've never really witnessed this type of situation. But there are two experiences that come to mind.

The first incident occurred on our 2007 trip. We were in line to see Captain Hook and Mr. Smee, right next to Tortuga Tavern in Adventureland. There was a little boy, who I would guess to be about 7, in line a few spots ahead of us. I noticed that he had a pirates sword in his hand. Well it was his turn to see Hook and Smee. Smee had just signed the boys autograph book and handed it to Hook. While Hook was signing it, the little devil hit Hook right in the balls with the sword. Hook fell to the ground. Felt so sorry for him (was laughing but felt sorry). He hit him so hard, it about made me hurt down there.

Lastly, we were in MK during our 2009 trip. Had just gotten ice cream in Fantasyland when I heard a loud crash. Idk what the heck happend, but all I saw was Chip lying on the ground next to a trashcan and Goofy proceeding to kick him in the gut. Security was there in a blink of an eye.

We were eating at Crystal Palace and the table behind us, it was not the kids being rude on their own it was the parents egging them on to be bad. For example they had had their time with Tigger, he had taken all the pictures signed the books , said by and was moving on to our table the parents tell the kids, pull tiggers tail, get him, get Tigger, they were pulling his tail, punching and kicking him an would not let him go.

At Universal Studios the escort for 'Marilyn Monroe' were a couple of huge dudes in fancy suits. I wanted them in the picture almost as much as Marilyn. They obliged, but were a little surprised.

None of you has every worked with public, have you? I know all of you will say you work with the public. You don't. I worked for a hotel for a little while and bartended /waited tables in a very busy restaurant that was tourist based. It was fast an furious. We had live entertainment outside multiple bars and an hour and a half wait by 7 PM>

Stuff happens, no big deal. Goes with the job.

Luckily I worked for a guy who owned the place and had no one to report to. He was a good BS person but on occasion someone just went over the top and they had to leave. Same happened to the staff. I had one lady say to me "You look like my ex husband." So I told everyone and everyone was just waiting for this lady to make her move. She did and off course I should be fired. Matter of fact in her mind I should have been killed. LOL. She made it really clear what an evil person I was. Of course everyone was watching to see what would set her off. She sat there with the angry look for a good hour or so waiting for her chance. Finally I said something that could she twist and of course I should be killed immediately. Owner of the place told her to pay her bill and leave. She didn't like that so she wanted to talk to someone higher up. There was no one higher up to her shock.

Being punched as character by some kids is real low on the badness scale.

Thanks for the extensive background checks you've done on everyone on these boards who may claim they've worked with "the public" before.
