Roy O. Disney locomotive shipped off for rehab

The locomotives really don’t have the right names. The Roy should be the Lilly Belle, since it’s a 4-4-0 (the original Lilly Belle locomotive that Roger Broggie built for Walt is a 4-4-0).
IIRC Roy wasn’t ready for opening day. They wanted to name one of the other 3 after him, but Roy wouldn’t let them. Then he passed away and in his honor they named #4 after him when it was completed.

Here’s the official Roy thread if anyone is interested. This is where updates/information on the overhaul will be provided, much like the threads about Walter and Roger.

So you create your thread after this one... and label yours "the official thread"?? lol good one

Yeah, there’s a few stories like that. The story I’ve always heard is Walter and Roger were going to be the Walter and Roy (they are sister engines) but Roy didn’t like that, so that certainly goofed up the names.

It could be they were going to have the 4-4-0 be the Broggie, and they just swapped them. Since Broggie built the Lilly Belle (4-4-0) that would have been a nod to him.

Kinda fun to think about it all!

I want to clear out the misconception about Roy's dynamo replacement. It was actually replaced with batteries at probably around 2018, because I can tell you that Roy's dynamo housing was still emitting steam during 2017:

Here's hoping that when it returns, it's still called Roy O. Disney.
All the other locomotives came back with their original names, so this one should come back with the original name too. Even if this didn't, Roy still has a locomotive named after him at Hong Kong Disneyland (even though HK's trains are not actual steamers).

Makes me wonder what even was the original naming plan if the Walter and Roger were both named after the Disney brothers.
